    Default Convergence TPBs

Preliminary solicits are up on Amazon:

    Convergence
    : Apparently the main book.

Convergence: Flashpoint Book One: Apparently the Week One ("2011 era") books.
    Convergence: Flashpoint Book Two
Convergence: Zero Hour Book One: Apparently the Week Two ("1994 era") books. This one will probably have JLI and Green Arrow.
Convergence: Zero Hour Book Two: This one will probably include Supergirl: Matrix.
Convergence: Crisis Book One: Apparently the Week 3 ("1985 era") books and will include Teen Titans.
Convergence: Crisis Book Two: Apparently will include Swamp Thing.
Convergence: Infinite Earths Book One: Apparently the mixed-era Week Four books and will include Shazam!.
Convergence: Infinite Earths Book Two: Apparently will include Booster Gold.

They're listed at $19.99 each, except for the main one which is $16.99. That seems awfully cheap for what should be a lot of issues per trade. (The main one should be 9 issues.) Release dates are from mid-October to early November.

I'm glad they're lumping these together by era. My guess without being able to tell much from the preliminary solicits is that they'll be thematically grouped. Like, one Zero Hour book might contain all the Superman family titles like Steel, Superboy, and Supergirl. That's my hope, anyway.

Also, I just noticed that Ron Marz wrote the 1994-era JLI book but did not write the Green Lantern book that came out the same week...which was the era Marz was writing GL. Who made the decision NOT to put Marz on the Convergence GL title? If Marz voluntarily didn't want to do it, fine, but otherwise...ugh.

Sh*t. I'd been holding out on a number of titles I wanted to check out anticipating a one- or two-volume omnibus style collection. Split across nine books, I'm not sure that's any cheaper than buying the individual issues.

Not a huge fan of this setup. I'd even have been on board for one book for each era. As it stands, I don't know.

$20 x 9 books = $180. I guess that is cheaper than the individual issues, but ... yikes.

I just stuck with my favorite of the four eras: the Week Two 1994 books. (Really, my favorite DC period was 1996 to 2002, but the Week Two books were as close as they got to that.) As it is, I feel like nothing of consequence happened in any of the books that I read--every issue followed the same formula of "powerless heroes hear Telos' challenge, get powers back, fight somebody from another dimension, somebody loses/dies." I'm reading the tie-ins for the nostalgia porn value and that's it.

That's kind of why I was looking forward to some meaty, value-conscious collections. On their own, a lot of the stories (though fun!) aren't quite worth it. But as a bulk read, it seems quite appealing.

DC tend to do this with their big event books. I guess they like to pass savings from the economy of scale on to the customers. Unlike Marvel who like to charge silly money for their big event books.
