Agreed. Intrusive ads are basically worse than trolls. They're basically like someone jumping in front of you and the screen saying 'THIS SUCKS! WOULDN'T YOU RATHER BE CHECKING OUT OUR PRODUCT AT OUR SITE INSTEAD?' in a loud voice.

Or to put it another way: You know how on network TV, the closing credits for every show are squeezed down and the music drowned out so that advertisements for other shows can play? Intrusive ads are kind of like that ... except that it's not just the closing credits, it's the whole show that's treated this way.

The less we see of that intrusive sort of ad, the better. Good ads should be visible, but not intrusive or impeding one's ability to enjoy the site or forum they came there to use. The banner ads CBR runs advertising things like Alex Ross collections, conventions, and various comic book/sci-fi/fantasy/geek culture related things are all right. Those are good, non-intrusive ads that do their job without shouting over the actual content people came to see.

But pop-ups, ad videos, and such ... well, those are the things that ad block software should be used on. And as stated above, no one wins in that sort of situation. The site/forum doesn't get support from those ads since people block them and/or complain about them in threads such as this one, and the people behind the ads don't get money either since they just annoy people.

Honestly, the people behind those ads should just switch to less intrusive forms of advertising. They'll annoy less people and possibly make more money for themselves and the sites that run their ads that way.

I'm frustrated enough that I came to the forum to complain about the ads you guys have been running and funny enough theres already a thread on it going.

I understand the need to make money. Cool. That said…it is impossible to visit your site on a mobile device. Impossible. Why have ads this intrusive if it stops people from even being able to read the content? Why do something that is basically making me say "screw this site."

Exactly. It makes me want to just give up coming here between the lack of interesting content and the ads. And really, the content now is just ads for Marvel and DC events and movies.

They are getting WAY out of control. Every time I get the 'AliExpress' ad on my screen (at the top and bottom of the page), whatever board or discussion I then click onto, in fact whatever part of CBR that I want to go to next, without warning it takes me to the 'AliExpress' site instead!

Note to AliExpress - I am never, NEVER gonna buy anything on your site. Especially when you send me there against my will.

The only way around it is to disable the ad. Can I be arsed to do that every time that I want to peruse the boards?

    Adblocker here we come.

Adblocker works fine, though it has its work cut out here, depending on the day.

When I go to the main news site on my iPad I get redirected to a porn site called Simplegirls.net and get a popup saying I won something or a redirect to the App Store. Needless to say, it's discouraging me from checking the news.

I tried to look at the Previews for next week's comics and some huge ad for a TV show (I think ) called Graves took up the whole screen and I couldn't get rid of it. And I use Ad Block. When I closed the pop up for the ad, It didn't take be back to the preview. Then I finally got back but now there are ads interspersed throughout the previews. I don't really want to see ads for male performance stuff when I'm trying to just see what's coming up next week.

I too hate the ads on CBR's site. They take over my browser and often force me to close Chrome on my phone. I have no issue with ads but the should not reduce the quality of my life or negatively impact my enjoyment of your site.

I can confirm that the add issue is not unique to CBR. It is happening on all of Valnet's websites (Screenrant, The Sportster, etc.).

Curious to see if there was anything new on here? When I view this page on my mobile, it gets hijacked in Chrome, directing me to download an app. 100%, only on CBR. Is there a app that will block this? I know adware blockers work on a desktop, but wasn't sure about a mobile.

If I leave the frontpage open it slowly starts to eat memory until the tab crashes. Really frustrating. Not all ads seem to cause this though.
