I bought the original series mainly for Rick Leonardi's pencils, but I might give this one a try.

Always interesting to see a writer (Peter David) revisit a series later in their career... for better or for worse (X-Factor) -- though I blame the failure of said series on Douglas Ramsey more than anything else.

No more Douglas Ramsey, PAD -- the character is a walking curse.

I picked up this issue both because I wanted to try each of the Secret Wars books and because I thought it would be a good jumping-on point for the 2099 universe. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed. There wasn't anything in the story that grabbed me. The Captain America twist is interesting in concept, but wasn't really captivating on the page. If I was better versed in 2099 stories, I think I would have found this much more enjoyable.

Still extremely excited to see what PAD has in store for Future Imperfect!

Really curious if that was the real Hercules (well, real as one can be on Battleworld) and what Miguel's deal is. He's taken up his father's family name and company, and seems to be doing good with it through The Avengers, but is there more to it?

Solicits show him in action, so I wonder if he still got his powers but just didn't become Spider-Man in this version of 2099? Or if something happened that made him drop his old identity and being a Superhero to take over Alchemax? At least he still hates his dad .

Poor 2099 Hawkeye. Barely does anything compared to his compatriots, or anything they can't do themselves, and is the least interesting of the bunch...so far at least.

I wonder if this isn't picking up where PAD left off in the original 90's run, with Mig in charge at Alchemex. This could end up being a "bridge the gap" miniseries, connected to Secret Wars in name only.

I can't say anything suspicious happened here. Like Inferno, nothing happens. Those two books look the most disconnected to Battleworld, mostly because they are immersed so deep in their own drama they have no room for Doom drama.

Huh, interesting...maybe something happens at the end of 2099 that has Miguel ousted from Alchemax, with Tyler Stone back in charge, and becoming Spider-Man again in time for the 2099 arc in Superior?

Thankfully. That means I can enjoy them on thier own merits. Like Infinity Gauntlet.

Battleworld was an excuse to give creators a blank canvas. Not all books need to connect to the SW main story.

In Battleworld#1 the fight between Doc Castle and the Infernal Four takes place in 2099 and causes a lot of destruction, its odd that the Avengers didn't come to check this out.

Yeah, thanks. I know the citizens commented that there was the Public Eye, but not the Avengers. Ghost Rider, Spidey, Hulk, and Wolverine tried to take in Punisher in Battleworld, but three of them aren't mutants. Maybe the other 3 were demons, like Darkchild and Nightcrawler?

Peter David did a good job on Roberta/Captain America, making Roberta able to stick to her dislike of super heroes, as her normal state, by a sort of amnesia to take on Cap in her super hero state. This makes Roberta able to have deniability in one sense, and still be able to serve as a super hero her civilian guise would despise. It's sort of like JJ Jameson agreeing to be Spiderman, and hate him when he is in his civilian guise. You can keep your common beliefs, while being mindwiped that you are someone you despise, a little like SHIELD ended up doing to Widow and Hawkeye at the end there.
