Default Has Superman ever been portrayed properly on screen?

Do you feel Superman has ever been portrayed on the big screen properly?

Reeves certainly had the look going for him and the build. But I always felt his characterization of Superman was as having this naivete, being too...nice. I get that Superman is a good guy and I wouldn't want him going all Dark Knight on us but...Reeves' Superman always felt a tad meek. A little too much Clark bleeding over into his Superman.

Superman Returns was basically the guy trying to ape Reeves' portrayal.

Cavill portrays a brooding, dark Superman....I've never seen that side of Supes.

I see Superman as a confidant, self assured guy with a masculine voice and a confidant air about him, bordering on cocky. My take on Superman is of a dual personality sort of thing: The nerdy, shy Clark and a cocky, masculine, almost macho Superman with a strong sense of justice, but Clark is the real guy and Superman is just a mask Clark wears. Maybe that's cause I was brought up on 90s mullet era Superman and that's what they tried to portray him as.

    What do you guys think?

Superman's character has evolved constantly over the decades in the comic books, so it's no surprise that the cinematic representations have also evolved.

Were you reading Superman comic books back before CoIE, which is when those Christopher Reeve (no "s" on the end) movies were made?

    Superman II.
That's probably my definitive Superman film.

Man of Steel actually felt more in line with some of Golden Age Superman's characteristics/mentality than Reeve's Superman

Superman II is the definitive cinematic Superman in my eyes.

In all the movies Superman was from a dead planet raised by the Kents and had a desire to use his powers to help people. He stood for truth and justice and that sounds like Superman to me

I can't think of anything that was completely or even mostly off.

Am I happy about "amnesia kiss"? No. Was the 80s Superboy show kind of cheesy at times? Sure. But, it's all still Superman. Even splits-in-half-gets-drunk-fights-self is still Superman.

Smallville was very Superman. A complete and perfect origin of why Clark will be the greatest super hero. MOS may have been dark in tone but Clark was finding his way to be the Superman we love. His values are always on display. He just had to accept his destiny. Superman the movie and two speak for themselves and even Returns had Superman doing whatever he can to save the day and help people. The cartoons and animated universe movies are great. There has never been a portrayal of Superman that doesn't get him right even if the movie or show wasn't the best. Even Lois and Clark had a spot on Superman

You'd struggle to find one that doesn't, in my opinion. As a kid I particularly liked the Adventures of Lois and Clark, even if it was a bit goofy.
