Question about Crossed + One Hundred

So I picked this up today, thinking it was a new story. It has Ennis and Moore's names on it and without further knowledge I went on to buy it (the art looked and story looked cool aswell). I read the issue and I liked it, even though I did not understand much of the references. I was intrigued enough to start looking at the original Crossed series, what do you guys think of it? I absolutely love post-apocalyptic stories and Ennis is my new hero so it seems like a good match.

What is the general opinion about it?

... and, slightly offtopic perhaps, but could you recommend any other good post apocalyptic stories?

Ennis' run on Crossed is one of the few times when the series can be good the other ones being Moore's story and Spurrier's Wish You Were Here web comic.
