    Default Ultimate End #2 SPOILERS

    spoilers:
    - issue opens with the pages from the preview, Hawkeye gets fried by the Thors
    - Ultimate Tony visits his 616 counterpart, leading to my favorite part of the issue: 616 Tony confronting Ultimate Tony about his alcoholism, after which Ultimate Tony tosses his flask out of the window and the two of them start working on a solution for their dimensional problem
    - it is implies that Doom might just erase the merged Manhattan and create it over again, as he has done with other territories before
    - 616 Peter has dinner with Ultimate Aunt May and Gwen, not really anything going on that we haven't seen before in Spider-Men
    - Ultimate Punisher is incarcerated at Ryker's and we get a nod to Ultimate Spider-Man Annual #2 with him killing a crook, when suddenly Ultimate (Gray) Hulk crashes in there, leading to a breakout
    - Ultimate Hulk is fighting a green Hulk, apparently someone else than Doc Green
    - Ultimate Fury and 616 Maria Hill assess the situation and deploy the remaining heroes, including the Ultimates, Avengers, All-New X-Men, Fantastic Four etc.
    - issue ends with Ultimate Punisher escaping on a boat and the heroes heading for Ryker's
    end of spoilers

The conversation between the two Tonys is easily my favorite aspect of the issue. The plot points feel a little disjointed and there are still lots of questions unanswered, but the plot seems to be picking up the pace.

    The issue was alright.

I personally found the scene with Tonys a little weak. I think 616 Tony would be intelligent enough to realize that his Ultimate Version would be able to walk into his lab since they technically share the same DNA.

The beginning was my favorite part. I literally laughed at the scene. Glad to see Thor(s) is boss and not fodder. Hawkeye is Cartman/Kenny hybrid. Runs the mouth and learns the hard way. I also liked the 'reunion' scene with Peter/Gwen/May and Two Hulks fighting is always entertaining.

I'm confused about one thing, where did this Hulk come from? I mean it can't be Doc Green because we saw Doc Green last issue and in the opening of this one, but if it had come from Greenland wouldn't the Thors have stopped it because of the whole Borders thing. So is this our All-new Hulk or did Bendis screw up?

Well you got an area called Greenland which is all Hulks down to the creatures (SW Tie-In PLanet HULK) Hell in Attilan rising a group of hulks walk into the club the quiet room. You also have Doc Green aiding Steve Rogers in Planet Hulk.

I know about all that, I'm just trying to guess where this Hulk came from. I suppose those are all possible places the Hulk could have come from. Either way I'm just interested in whatever is going on.

C'mon Bendis why do you have to be always a build up then let down guy?
And why did you not use Doc Green VS Ultimate Grey Hulk?

I think the fact it isn't Doc Green is the big twist. It means the reality distortion is getting worse and letting in other alternative versions.

Also, we seem to know for sure these aren't the same versions of the 616 and 1610 heroes that met in the incursion. The Tonys seem to be saying that their area has been wiped before.

Also on the splash page of issue one where Ultimate and 616 characters are fighting, Hawkeye is alive.. So much for maintaining consistency.

Lol Ultimate End keeps being confusing, but the Hulk vs. Hulk art was pretty well drawn. This series could have been just 3 issues long, these two build-up issues we're pointless and worthless to the long run.

My main gripe with todays issue is that Stark was clearly looking at two big projections of earth. Not Battleworld. They clearly know they are on Battleworld and know about Doom. So whats up? Either Bagley and Bendis are just stupid or something is going on...

Yeah, boring is a good way to put this. I just couldn't get excited about anything in this issue. Part of that is the convoluted premise of the story, but I think it's more that this is all just recycled material from Bendis.

    -Bendis kills Hawkeye
I guess it's a cute reference to his first major Marvel story, but it's hollow here. All Hawkeye's death says to me is that none of this has stakes. I get that I'm getting into "does this story matter?" territory, which I try to avoid, but they're selling this as "THIS IS 616 HAWKEYE" and "THIS STORY IS REAL AND MATTERS" but I don't believe for a second that they'd kill off Hawkeye in a single panel in the Ultimate tie-in book. Therefore, that leads me to think of this as not 616-Hawkeye - which is fine, because stories about different versions are fine. However, that means this is a new character, and Bendis did nothing to make me care about him before his death. So he's just a cheap Red Shirt.

-Ultimate Tony deals with a multiversal twist
We've seen this a few times now. The only difference here is that he's sitting with 616-Tony. That sound interesting in concept, but their conversation was pretty dull, and I think it would take more than his other-self kindly asking to make Ultimate Tony not get drunk before work.

    -Punisher escapes from prison
That's what his first story was in UMTU #6, 15 years ago. While that was one of Bendis's best Ultimate stories, this doesn't have any of what made that first one interesting.

-May and Gwen sit and talk with Peter
This is what, the 3rd time we've seen it? First in Spider-men, then with the revived Ultimate Pete, and now AGAIN with 616-Spider-man. This is not interesting to watch again, whatsoever. It had a lot of weight the first time we watched it, now it's just boring.

    -Hulk vs Hulk
Ok, I'm not actually sure if this is a recycled Bendis story, but I have trouble caring about it. We'll see if there's an explanation as to why it's standard Hulk; I'll hold off judgement on that for now.

The plot is light, the premise is collapsing on itself (no, that's not an Incursion joke), and the characters are dull. Fortunately, Mark Bagley is doing a great job, though he's much better suited to Spider-man stories than big events like this book should be.

There's even more fuel to the not really 616/1610 fire.

    From X-Position:

I've been enjoying Colossus in "Inferno." I know some aren't thrilled to revisit Colossus being blinded by love for his sister, but I embrace it. What is different about this Colossus compared to 616 and how will he differ going forward?

Kubert: Glad ya dig so far! This Colossus has lived a completely different life than the one from the 616 (although, to be fair, in Battleworld, there is no 616!) since he has been totally consumed with loss, regret and failure. His inability to save his sister affects his personal relationships, his outlook on life -- and while some of that may change him in the post-"SW" world, only time will tell -- especially if he succeeds in his mission to save Illyana!
    Pull List:

Marvel Comics: Venom, X-Men, Black Panther, Captain America, Eternals, Warhammer 40000.
    DC Comics: The Last God

Bleh. Hurts to think that this might well be the end of my beloved Ultimate Universe. It's just impossible to care about this series. We know far too little about what is going on. If Ultimate End doesn't pick up, I'll definitely be ignoring Bendis' Invincible Iron Man.
