    Default Gimmick/Unusual Covers

What are your favorites? What didn't work for you?

I'm a sucker for gimmick covers, in general, but the "invisible" image in the gloss of the dust jacket of the Invisibles omnibus fills me with geeky delight, whenever the light catches it right.

And, I love glow in the dark covers, because I tend to forget they are glow in the dark until they randomly shake me up in the middle of the night.

I still don't know how Force Works #1 is supposed to work.

    I love gimmick covers.

Love the DC villains omnibus with the lenticular images, loved the weird period in the 90s with the holograms and foil and the pop out bits and die cut bits and the rubber bits and all the stuff like that.

Granted I was a kid at the time and so it was all special because it was shiny!

My favourite cover is either Silver Surfer #75 because I just love that issue generally, or Guardians of the Galaxy 25, with a shiny lenticular Galactus.

Special mention to Spectre.....#8 I think, which does glow in the dark!

The Fatal Attraction covers with the 3D hologram cards were fantastic.

I was in love with those holograms. I imagine the collected editions don't bother with them at all, which is a shame if true.

None of the collections I bought had them which is a shame.

Fatal Attraction holograms were great! Heck even the Phalanx Covenant covers were fun with the shiny bits on the side. The glow in the dark Ghost Rider cover was a favorite growing up. I also like covers like Deadpool: The Circle Chase or Gambit with the embossing and raised lettering

Another vote for glow-in-the-dark covers here! Favorites include Green Lantern #50 and all of the early 90's The Spectre covers.

What didn't work for me was Eclipso: The Darkness Within #1. They really should have just gone with foil instead of a protruding piece of plastic for the black diamond.

    Seriously.

I destroyed my original copy trying to open that damn thing (and get it to close), and eventually bought a second copy from a $1 bin years later.

Ah yeah, the Phalanx covers were cool too. Except in the UK we got a lot of the news stand issues where they replaced the shiny strip with a red one.

And a pain it would be to store in a comic short box leaving indentations if snug too tightly.
