    Default Favorite Jim Aparo Work

His work on Batman & Aquaman is legendary. I especially loved his Brave & Bold work which showed his art on the whole DCU. However my absolute favorite work of Jim Aparo is his Spectre in Adventure Comics. 40 yrs later it still is so surreal & breathtaking.

My single most favorite piece of work by Aparo was Detective 446. He was at his peak and his art on this story was inspired! If you can get a chance to see it I'd recommend looking at each panel with a magnifying glass! Definitive!

Easily The Spectre, but I tended to like anything he did, even some of the '90s Bat-books.

I was most impressed with his work in the early '70s on THE PHANTOM STRANGER and THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD. He had a unique inking style that really fascinated me. As time went on, other inkers didn't bring out those qualities in his work--and even when Aparo inked his own pencils, he didn't do the inks anymore the way I loved them.

Have to say I really liked his early Batman and the Outsiders. Not sure if it's really my favorite (there are so many I love by him), but it's the first one that came to mind when I read the thread's title.

Besides the obvious/classics, I have to give a shout out to his 90's Green Arrow work (approx. #81-100). He was a great fit for Puckett and Dixon's scripts.

You can't beat his Batman work. He is without a doubt my favorite Batman artist.

Growing up in the 70's,his Brave and the bold issues did it for me.The $1.00 Detective books were pretty too.

I grew up on his Brave & Bold but I was really blown away when I saw Spectre & Phantom Stranger work. Aquaman isn't shabby either.

I love the Team Up he did with Batman and Richard Dragon from Brave and the Bold. Bats wasn't completely super ninja at the time, so when he fights with Dragon, he abandons martial arts in favor of Boxing moves. Plus he acts surprised by all his Kung Fu connections. Someone else said it, but Aparo's Brave and Bold is a serious argument for the best version of the DCU.

My favorites are his Phantom Stranger and Spectre work. When I got a chance to meet him at a small con in Connecticut more than a decade ago, those were what I brought, and he was surprised and happy to be signing something other than Batman material.
