    POWERMAN

    Powerman (comics)
Powerman is a British comic book series written by Don Avenall (aka Donne Avenell) and Norman Worker, and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and Brian Bolland that was initially distributed in Nigeria in the early 1970s. The series starred a superhero named Powerman. When the comics were re-published in the United Kingdom the character's name became Powerbolt.

Gibbons said that an executive from a Nigerian advertising agency approached Bardon Press Features to discuss the idea of making a series with a black superhero; the man and his wife saw that in Nigeria, the comics available were imported and had White protagonists. Gibbons designed the character and the series logo and worked chores with Bolland. Gibbons said that he published one 14-page issue per month, which was published every two weeks (fourteen days and nights). Gibbons said that he remembered asking why Africans did not work on the strips and hearing that the African artists would likely emerge once comics become popular in Africa. Gibbons also recalls difficulty adjusting to writing for a Nigerian culture; for instance, the management told him that a fat stomach indicated "success and power" instead of "gluttony or greed" and that having Powerman "always get off with the girls" was not considered sexist. Each panel had a number to indicate the flow of the story.

Without the permission of the original publishers, the comic was reprinted in South Africa. The Comics Journal accused the creators of Powerman of supporting the Apartheid since the characters were mostly Black. One white character, a blond property developer, was named Boss Blitzer. The character, described by Gibbons as "dishonest," faces defeat at the hands of Powerman.

In 1988, Eclipse Comics republished the series in Power Comics but changed Powerman's name to Powerbolt. Powerman, who had a lot of strength and could fly, appeared in stories rendered in a simple style reminiscent of Fawcett Comics's Golden Age Captain Marvel. His only apparent weakness was snakebite.

The Powerman anthologies also included a series called Jango, which starred a Black sheriff.

Powerman, a comic book from the United Kingdom developed for the Nigerian market in the 70s. Features some of the earliest Brian Bolland work (Camelot 3000, ...

    Kryptonian
    Physiology and powers
Kal-El can lead a double life as Clark Kent because Kryptonians are indistinguishable from humans. Also in Silver Age and Modern continuity Kryptonians have more than one ethnic group, such as dark-skinned Kryptonians from Krypton's Vathlo Island that resembles Earth humans of Sub-Saharan African descent, and a group from the continent of Twenx that resembles Earth Asian and Latino peoples. In the first stories about Superman's origins, all Kryptonians possess on their homeworld the same powers Superman has on Earth. In later depictions, their abilities are attributed to the differences between Earth's gravity and that of Krypton and the different radiation of the stars they orbit. Kryptonians use solar energy from yellow, blue, orange or white stars on the cellular and molecular levels to gain superhuman abilities. The light of dwarf stars, pulsars, and quasars also grants Kryptonians different abilities. Some stories also show that Kryptonians have bioelectric fields that surround their bodies and protect them from harm and which are the means by which Kryptonians fly. Certain individuals (including Conner Kent, Chris Kent, and some Phantom Zone criminals) have sometimes been depicted with "tactile telekinesis". The abilities of Kryptonians evolve and grow more powerful as Kryptonians age and develop.

    Vathlo Island
Vathlo Island is an island nation on Krypton which was not part of the planetary federation. Nevertheless, it had an advanced society. The majority of the populace seems to be black. Indeed, many of the black Kryptonians who survived the destruction of the planet, originally came from Vathlo.

    Centurious

Centurious is a fictional character in the Marvel Universe.
Centurious was a servant of Mephisto and an enemy of Zarathos. In combating Zarathos, he became a regular foe of the first Ghost Rider.
In prehistoric times, the man who would come to be known as Centurious was the prince of an Amerindian tribe. He bargained his soul to Mephisto in order to combat the demon Zarathos and save the woman he loved, becoming a soulless immortal in the process. He lived many lifetimes and learned many things over the following centuries. In Ancient Egypt, he studied the mystic arts, and acquired the Crystal of Souls. He had many occupations, aliases, and wives in the years to come, including that of the owner of a Louisiana plantation.
    Powers and abilities
Centurious was conferred with immortality upon selling his soul to Mephisto. Over his long life, he has become an adept practitioner of the mystic arts. He has the ability to manipulate the forces of magic to magically enhance his strength, durability, and stamina, to control the natural elements of earth, air, fire, and water, for the abilities of telekinesis, levitation, illusion-casting, and mental control of some lower animals and of humans under certain circumstances.
Centurious once used the Crystal of Souls, a power source for his abilities that imprisoned the souls of his victims.
Centurious is proficient in various hand-to-hand combat techniques learned over many ages, but prefers not to engage in physical combat.
