I like the sound of Powers by Bendis, and see it on most "must read" lists, but I find the artwork really puts me off, it looks like something from cartoon network. Has anybody else experienced this.

I remember reading The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and being put off by the sex scenes between the characters. If it were other characters, nothing would have happened. But when you see Mina Harper and Quartermain having some wild sex in the forest, it's just... strange.
I was at a con and Arcana was selling digest-sized trades for $5 each. I figured, for that price, I'd try just about anything. Mario Gully's Ant was the only really "known" title, but I got other stuff like Ezra and Starkweather, too. The writing was so bad. Also, there were countless punctuation errors. It was painful to read.
Hope is not lost today. It is found.
Format-wise, if a comic book is printed exclusively in "widescreen" but maintains the standard dimensions of a comic book--with binding along the long side--I have trouble getting into it.
Covers to certain books will sometimes do it for me, particularly if it features a cheesecake pinup or some other over sexualized image, I feel uncomfortable reading either at home or in public.
I was quite disturbed by the issue on Brian Reed's Ms. Marvel run that revolved around how she got tortured in flashback. I thought it was very demeaning to the character, even though some folks were praising that particular story. And I was actually greatly enjoying Reed's Ms. Marvel up until that point.
Take my dreams, childish and weak at the seams
Please don't analyze, please just be there for me
Artwork that is too flashy, and I won't buy anything too sexual on the cover due to the fact I don't like the feeling that i should have to put a brown cover over what I buy. But I am far from the usual buyer of comics and your mileage my very.
Too much graphic violence or if the guy who supposed to be the hero is too much of a dick.
I was mostly enjoying The Walking Dead until the Michonne revenge stuff on the Guv. I just found that to be too over the top and it soured the comic for me and really sorta diminished my opinion of Kirkman as a writer. Some of the later events that have occurred have further solidified my feelings in that regard...
The artwork in Manhattan Projects doesn't do much for me and kept me from getting into that comic.
In general, I'm not very interested in sexually explicit or "edgy" stuff. Not real big on the Grimdark either...
Brian K Vaughn's sense of humor (as well as a few of his other tics) put me off Saga.
I don't mind graphic violence, but characters who can't think of any other way to solve their problems are a turn off (cough, cough Wolverine).
Try-hard, cutesy humor is also a no go for me (no Deadpool, pls).
Read Prophet, live Stray Bullets.
Waiting for 6 months between issues, mostly because in a few cases I genuinely couldn't remember which issue I had bought up to.
Mark Millar, I know everyone thinks he is a god, especially the Scottish Media who interviews him about anything Comic Book related, but to me he just seems to obsessed with over the top violence, being 'adult' in a way that extreme porn is 'adult', and that just isn't my thing.
80's Marvel comics, when I was young I can remember reading the reprints of early Xmen and Spiderman but by the time I was a teenager and buying them from Yankee MAgs in Paisley and Virginia Galleries in Glasgow I had stopped reading them entirely and rereading them now I still just don't like them, I know they are classics but they just don't hit me in any way, I just prefer comics that have action and adventures rather than discussions about tidying up and going shopping for clothes.
Beyond unpleasing art, the lack of characterization, completely ignoring characters' histories, mean-spiritedness and/or concept/personal agenda over characters.
For me, it's always about character and the beautiful art that comes with characters I like to read.
Three writers have turned me off to ever reading anything by them again: Millar, Bendis and Remender. I won't go into details as I do not feel like getting banned, but I mentioned the whys above since they apply to each of one of these writers.
I like stories that can be epic and/or go on for awhile, but if I cannot connect with the character and/or have fun, I skip out.
Price is also a big turn off now. I'd try a lot more if we were looking at $2.50, $2.99 an issue again. I know it won't happen but...

archer * magician *soldier * spy
Buying a few issues in sequence of a given title, then finding out during reading that you have to read some random issues of another title to understand what's going on in the ones you just bought, well, that's off-putting to me.
