I think us fans of Marvel can keep calling today Marvel Universe Day even if the company itself hates it or does away with the term. It's too tight in our consciousnesses.

Yeah well, certainly if we are to believe that period of the 616 is gone, it holds a special place in our hearts, and can't be lost. You tend to reflect back on the place that helped you grow up, and certainly for me that was Marvel 616.

I don't know if what could come later will have the same impact that our 616 had on our imaginations, but if it does, Marvel will leave an indelible mark on souls wherever it goes.


The period June 1961 till May 2015 started with a pretty volatile period in history and it was translated into the comics with the pretty radical approach of making its characters less than idyllic. They never had clean hands to start with, but that doesn't mean you can't make something of yourself, and Marvel heroes developed from there through the decades. But they still maintained getting their hands dirty to the very end.

I just wonder if the characters that arrived at the end, were an identical book end to the ones that started in 1961?
