Default Batman’s first encounter w. the Supernatural

The current Batman Offworld book got me thinking.

I seem to remember a mini or storyline from years ago that detailed a still new to crime fighting Batman encountering a ghost (i think) or some other spooky type, but I can’t find anything online so maybe I’m imagining it.

If I did just make it up, then what WAS Batman’s first supernatural adventure, anyone know?

Probably the Mad Monk stuff from the Golden Age era.

    Yeah.

People forget how genre-bending Batman's real 'Year One' was - apart from the usual murder mysteries and organized crime, you had vampires, bioterrorism, a would-be dictator with a giant raygun, the chemically-altered 'Monster Men', and a bunch of weirded stuff that doesn't immediately spring to mind. I think aliens are about the only thing Batman didn't have to deal with in those initial stories (the 50's of course were loaded with 'em).

Yeah, I tend to view The Mad Monk as Batman's first main encounter with the supernatural. Monster Men, Mad Monk by Matt Wagner are my canon telling for those (especially because they work well with Year One, Brubaker's Man Who Laughs, and also Batman Prey).
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”
