What's going on with the Sinister Six film?

Doesn't have to... Goddard's previous pitch for this (the one about Savage Land) didn't even involve any plotlines from the ASM movies. In fact Sony was trying to cast new actors for it.

Something like Suicide Squad with a mix of characters who haven't been adapted to film before, and characters making their debut in a cinematic universe, could work. A major issue for Sony was the way they shoehorned potential Sinister Six members into Amazing Spider-Man 2, even if their later plans were in a different direction.

Because Sony may still be interested in Spider-Man spin-offs. Goddard seems to think Sinister Six could still possibly happen in the future.
