She shouldn't have a mane of hair to deal with but a hip to ankle sash is ...functional?

"I cannot be encumbered by all these blonde luxurious locks-- OOF!!! Tripped on my sash, sorry. Where was I?"

    Just sayin'.

I'm in either way. I love Carol. I'm partial to the wind swept tresses but I can get behind the short cut.

    But just sayin'.

Sash is no big deal. They cut her hair so people cant yank at it.

Whereas sashes are too slippery to grip.

Said it before, and I'll say it again. Starlin has never shown the least interest in Carol. First thing he did when he took over Captain Marvel was write her out of the book and sort-of replace her as human sidekick character with Rick Jones. Then, when he wrote Death of Captain Marvel, he didn't even include her, something Claremont had to rectify after the fact in an issue of Marvel Fanfare. I (mostly) love Starlin's stuff and consider some of it among the best comic stories ever written, but he is not right for Carol.

Plus, as someone else joked, it would just end up being about Thanos, anyway.

Shhh, there's not room for logic/reason around these parts. If she doesn't look like a supermodel with a long flowing mane, then she's a butch man-looking thing (sarcasm).

Sure, I buy the reason for it, but to take your premier female hero and make her look like a flat chested, short haired dude kinda defeats the point, no?
Not if the point was to draw a female audience that doesn't care for traditional cheesecake representations of female superheroes.

She's in every issue up through 18, which is retroactively explained to be the moment she gets her powers. She's then gone for almost all of Starlin's run, showing up in his last issue—34—is around for the issue after that, and shows up one final time in issue 40. I hadn't remembered Carol being in 34-35 (Mar-Vell's fight with Nitro and its immediate aftermath), but it really makes her absence in Death of Captain Marvel all the worse. She had more connection to him than anyone other than Rick Jones, and Starlin just left her out.

Actually, MJ has had her hair short before, and curly to boot. I believe it was done around the time they were making Gwen more MJ-like, so they changed MJ's hairstyle to differentiate her from Gwen. Suffice to say, it didn't look very good and didn't last .

She also had short hair in the MTV Spider-Man cartoon .

Well, I think there were times when they were semi-competent...or at least as competent as a SHIELD organization can be. Brand was usually pretty competent, especially in the SWORD series by Gillen.

Wow! Definitely not the team I was expecting to take over Captain Marvel. While TV writers writing comics isn't always a recipe for success, I really enjoyed Agent Carter and with that in mind I think this creative team can do a great job with Carol .

As for Anka, while he's not one of my favorite artists, I think he'll do fine on the book. Though I wish they had kept David Lopez...

I prefer Carol with long hair, but she doesn't look bad with it short and at least this will hopefully put an end to all the inconsistent hairstyles she's had since becoming Captain Marvel ,

I know it's all the rage these days but I'm not a fan of Anka's "flat" style. The short hair is a clear improvement on the previous version but I think I prefer the "mane" and I'm not sure about the footwear. From the front on that cover it looks a bit like red socks and ballet shoes.

    That's definitely a thing.

The fact that I've already been seeing nonsense like this all over the net shows us just how "problematic" gender attitudes still are, both in the fandom and in society at large. If she doesn't look 100% like "sexy sexy supermodel hot women," then she's an ugly butch man-looking abomination. It's pathetic really.
I must have missed the post where she was called ugly or an abomination but are you saying the combination of the hair, costume and body type on that design sheet doesn't look even a bit masculine? or that at first glance you could never mistake her for a man?

That's fine if that's what they were going for (after all, we wouldn't want some fine comic specialist calling Carol a porn star, would we?) but not everyone has to like it.

I think she looks better on the cover preview, though.

I think working on Captain Marvel, as Earth's first line of defense against extraterrestrial threats, will work wonderfully to Kris Anka's strengths.

Gotta say, I definitely like the design of the new costume better than the one she's been wearing.

Hairstyle is great. Hopefully it translates to film - not every female hero needs to have long hair.

She has breasts, so unless Carol is actually a he about to transition, then yes, I think female hero. Maybe Carol is a gender neutral hero. Don't know if you don't ask a fictional character.
