Actually, Miss America Chavez first appearance was the in the pages of a 2011 Marvel mini-series called Vengeance by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta. It is ok, story wise it is all over the place, some great moments, some that you might say WTF and a bunch of callbacks to his more recent modern Marvel work. As far as Miss America herself, she isn't the main character but among the 'good guys' heavily featured she steals the entire series, the basis for her personality is there and her costume isn't nearly as well done as the one that debuted in Young Avengers but she is still given some badass scenes that make it worth a quick read if you are a big fan of the character and want to see where she originally started or just like Casey's weirder Marvel stuff like his Uncanny X-Men run.

    Here's mine!

    City of Heroes:

USAce - While Major Christopher "Fox" Brown of the Army Air Corps was an excellent pilot, he wasn't much of a soldier otherwise. He alternated much of his time between his cockpit and the brig. After WW II, he got bored and volunteered for a super-soldier program. Twice passed over during the war, Fox was accepted with the volunteer level at a much lower pace. In 1947, he was inoculated, irradiated and electrocuted...and the result was his death. Only his old CO and a few flying buddies showed up for the funeral, as Fox's parents had died when he was young. Christopher Brown was forgotten by most.

During the final, fateful battle between Future-Man and Anachronus Caesar that ended the Great Chronal Event of August 2006, chronal rifts appeared throughout the eastern seaboard. The struggle between the two Time Titans was more than the fabric of reality could stand. Mortally wounded, Future-Man was able to invoke one final feat. Bursting with chronal energy, the awakened (and altered) body of Fox Brown appeared and destroyed Anachronus Caesar. Future-Man's final act was to explain to Fox what had happened, and to imbue him with the last of the hero's energy before he died.

The power apparently subsided, Fox Brown received a clean bill of health (as well as a rather hefty back paycheck) from the Army. He remained in Paragon City, fighting the good fight as USAce, the Human Fighter Jet!

The Colonial -The Colonial is part of an inter-dimensional ambassadorial trade. In his dimension (Earth UCA) the British appeased cries of "Taxation without representation" with representation in the House of Commons for all the colonies instead of revolution. The United Colonies of America (comprised of our US east of the Mississippi and most of our Canada) much later broke away in a more peaceful manner.

The Colonial is here as Earth UCA's representitive, while Ameridad from Millennium City serves Philadelphia UCA in exchange.

Americommando also didn't come off very good in Kingdom Come either where he was portrayed as a xenophobe and zealot. Poor guy just can't seem to catch a break.

Um, seriously! I expected Cap to be No. 1, but how do you do a list of patriotic heroes and not mention Wonder Woman (save for a passing mention in the section devoted to the woman who REPLACED her in DC's post-Crisis chronology)! A truly poor job. In case you don't think someone not born in the US can't be a patriotic symbol, here are the lyrics to the '70s TV show:

    "Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
All the world's waiting for you,
    and the power you possess.

    In your satin tights,
    Fighting for your rights
And the old Red, White and Blue."

    No Superpatriot, huh?

I wouldn't expect him to be anywhere near the top of the list, but I'm surprised that he was on it. Besides having four mini-series of his own, he was a staple of The Savage Dragon and Freak Force for decades. Not to mention, that Superpatriot's book is Robert Kirkman's first Image book and is what opened the door for him to become the superstar that he is today!

Yeah, WW is a bizarre omission. Maybe all the more recent stuff about how the eagle and stars were purely coincidental Amazon iconography influenced the writer to overlook the obvious.

Nice article but where are The Spirit of '76 aka Captain America 2 IIRC and of course Simon and Kirby's The Fighting American?

I've always loved American patriotic heroes and have a Captain America clone in the DCUO MMO. He's simply called Jimmy Woo.

Besides the ones mentioned above, some minor patriotic heroes include Red, White and Blue (DC), Commando Yank (Fawcett), American Eagle (Nedor) and Fighting Yank (Nedor).

I think it is because of all that, while stylistically she is patriotic, Wonder Woman's not really been a patriotic hero in years in regards to the US. It would sort of be like saying Iron Man is patriotic for China or Spain because they share colors for some of the armor. Originally her design might have been meant to be such, but over time she is less that and more of standard hero who really doesn't go off on the patriotic angle.

Nice that someone acknowledges the existence of the Bradley family. Marvel makes it as though they no longer exist.

Good question about The Fighting American.

Did The Spirit of '76 ever hold a title of his own (or a feature in an anthology), or was he created solely for his appearance in The Invaders? I know he was integrated into 616 continuity after a What If... story, but all those listed in the article at least had a feature somewhere (however brief the run). Of course, buy that standard, Crazy '50s Cap AKA The Grand Director could have an entry as well.

On a related note, what about USAgent, AKA Captain America AKA Super-Patriot AKA John Walker. He did star in Captain America's title for a while, and he was created as a US patriotic character (however cynical).
