    LGBT+ Marvel Characters Discussion

I’ll try to update the thread each time we have a new LGBT character revealed in comics; and keep the OP list updated as best I can. I debated on what type of poll to include: LGBT couples or LGBT characters. Couples would have been easier... but also sadly not a very big list/very informative, and some of Marvel's most prominent LGBT characters (like Karma) -- who hasn't had (to my knowledge) a real girlfriend - would have been excluded, but forgotten or far more obscure characters would have "made the cut". In picking the 15 LGBT characters for the poll, I basically had to go with the ones who (on gut instinct) I think are the most prominent LGBT characters. It's not a science, and in 2 years Benjamin Deeds might have become far more famous than Cullen Bloodstone (but for now Cullen bumped out Benjamin due to his connect to the famous Bloodstone family -- good chance he'll be back, if he lives through Avengers Undercover). I was very sad not to include Miss America Chavez, but it was between her and Bling! (and Bling! is actually exploring her sexuality in relationships right now, so she wins).

GORGEOUS fan art from our very own CBR Fokken, celebrating CBR's most popular LGBT character: Wiccan. It as inspired by the artwork of Marvel's Mahmud Asrar.

    Awww yeah!

Wow. So Daken is fan favorite. Maybe he's the only bisexual Asian man that get his own solo title at Marvel. I love all of them, even though Mystique, Runaways girl and Young Avengers kids always have special place in my heart.

Daken, Loki and Mystique (interestingly all bisexual) are the only three on-going LGBT solo series Marvel have ever had (though I'm not sure if Mystique's sexuality was ever mentioned in her series?)

LOVE the Runaways and Young Avengers. Can't wait to have the YA back in the Original Sin tie-ins.

Yay, Cullen Bloodstone! Sad face that there's no Miss America Chavez. But even so, that's going to be a tough poll to pick from. Will have to think on this.

No problem. I like them. I have yet to read Loki series. I'm waiting for 10-20 issue to came out, then I will read it. I hate waiting for new issue to came out. The suspense is killing me.

YES! Maybe Miss America can get her own girlfriend. Orr..... Kate Bishop outed as bisexual and she's dating America.

Wow. So Daken is fan favorite. Maybe he's the only bisexual Asian man that get his own solo title at Marvel. I love all of them, even though Mystique, Runaways girl and Young Avengers kids always have special place in my heart.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Daken's ... unique, like that. <wink>

I've got the BKV Mystique series, but haven't had a chance to read it yet.

Two Gun Kid also had an ongoing series, but his sexuality definitely wasn't mentioned in that.

What did you think of that preview art for the YA Original SinS? It's quirk, but after McKelvie's slick, clean style I'm not really feeling this. Hopefully the words will change my mind, though I'm not fond of the Hood either.

These two are from an interview with Ryan North about the YA Original SinS story.

Yes, the new Loki series is good. But I still LOVE Gillen's Journey Into Mystery with Kid Loki. That was beyond awesome.

    O_O

    Well, that could get interesting.

Kieran Frost leading the cause as always. Thanks so much for this thread! No coincidence that several of my recent favorite Marvel teams and books have an LGBT presence.

    Aww... you <wink>

I've read few Daken issue. Is it just me or he's often topless and showing his tattoo? Even many fan artist draw him half naked.

Mystique series is quite good. I like her ability to shape shifting. Even I was fooled. "So you want to capture me. Is it because of the music I download from internet?" pls

I could go on for days about my love for the YA but I'd like to say this:

I MUST commend Peter David on his remarkable, and entirely unexpected, handling of Shatterstar.
I never, in my wildest dreams, would have ever fathomed appreciating --let alone LIKING-- that ridiculous, pony-tailed, He-Man-reject from the 90's.
But Peter David scooped him up from character Limbo, gave him a unique voice, expanded on the long abandoned speculations of his relationship with Rictor, and WON. ME. OVER.

So hats off to both Peter David and Shatterstar for doing the impossible.

I think Mercury can be added to that list as well - at the very least as unconfirmed. She and Bling are dating, after all, even though it seems to be happening off panel.

And double kudos to whomever redesigned Shatterstar, making him leagues cooler looking than his previous design.
