It may be worth noting that these are pre-Marvel works, and his style has sharpened and evolved over time since being contracted.

I've seen both and I think they look amazing. The colored one has a bit of a goofy face, but it's not anything that makes it look bad, IMO. Plus, I've seen Dauterman drawing enough gorgeous faces to trust him with the job. I mean, you could actually mistake his Nightwing for Wiccan, and it looks very good:

I just feel like he's better at drawing women and beefy guys like Thor and Hercules than guys like Billy(or Nightwing). I'm not saying it's not good, far from it, just not the ultimate best choice for Billy and Teddy.

    YES.
That's who I modeled MY Billy after, in the illustration documenting his "history" on the first page of this appreciation thread.

I thought so too. This one splash page out of 12 issues of typical Ewing philosophy really stood out to me.

I feel like he's saying that love is like an element, not something that can be controlled by rigid definitions or ideals. It's neither right or wrong, it just exists. No matter how much society tries, love between two people will never truly fit into any pre-conceived structure. That's the beauty of it.

That message is really deep, I thought. I also like the in-universe implications of the love story between Swain and Panacea. Inhumans aren't human, why would their paradigm of love be the same as humanity's own? I find it fascinating on that level as well.

All right, how about a Week In gay?

Generation X #85 is gay, of course, as this series continues to destroy me. I just . . . I just want Ben and Nate to be happy and for Ben and Quentin to be friends again and Roxy to find her place. And I want good stuff for the others, too. They're all such good kids. Jubilee and Chamber smooch, Lin think Ben has a thing for Quentin (and knows that Trevor has a thing for her), and it's just so good. This is the content I want in my comics.

America #8, obviously. Not much romantic stuff, but there is some gorgeous pages drawn by Jen Bartel. America hits stuff, Prodigy uses the power of crowdsourcing. Other stuff. It remains a poorly-written series, sadly.

Ms. Marvel #25 has a major development with Zoe: She's doing Crossfit. She's also off meat. This issue is so great. So much fun.

X-Men Gold #18 has the gay Nazi alien.

If we're counting Viv, who's still not actually confirmed as anything, then Champions #15 has a lot of her.

And I think that covers it.

Yeah, I like the idea of Attilan/Inhuman culture not being so heteronormative as the rest. I lowkey feel like a case could be made for the opposite though, but yaaas that doesn't seem to be the case.

Mentioning the writers is one of the things I like about your week in gay posts.

Are you implying Kologoth is a self insert? :P

I do think it's valuable to recognize diverse creators, too. (I should really make a greater effort to note when a book has a gay artist. But I honestly don't know if any of the artists on this week's comics are gay.) In fact, related to recognizing gay creators:

Crossplay: an eroticgraphic novel, by Niki Smith. It was originally published on Filthy Figments, which is all porn comics by women (a lot of the comics are sweet and heartwarming, though it's been a couple years since I let my subscription lapse, and I should really go back there). Crossplay is about a group of friends who go to a convention for fun, and things get gay. There's still 4 days left to back it on Kickstarter. It had a goal of $8000, and is currently sitting at $25 686, because anything Iron Circus puts out on Kickstarter just blows past its goals.

Ah, so you were taking a shot at Guggenheim. I was thrown off because, as far as I know, Guggenheim's not gay or bi or anything.

I do stand by my statement that recognizing diverse creators is important, and I also stand by my promotion of Crossplay. In general, if Iron Circus publishes something, it's worth reading.
