It was also really fun to see Aaron trying to hook up with some of the other heroes...but I was surprised with the reveal that apparently Aaron and Jake Oh already hooked up off-panel at some point! For one thing, last I knew Oh was married. Granted, his husband could have died, or they could have split up, have an open marriage, or Jake could have cheated....but I would have thought Aaron would be a bit too young for him. Aaron was only 19 in his first appearance (so at the most he might be 20 now, depending on where his birthday falls) and Jake Oh is a former SHIELD agent. Granted, SHIELD has recruited some pretty young agents before, so maybe the gap isn't that bad--but it still, it just seemed an odd choice to pick the married ex-SHIELD agent to be the guy present that Aaron had already slept with. Maybe Striker would have been a better choice for that beat?
My bad -- I misremembered about Jake being married! When Jake told his friends about the guy he was dating in TOTALLY AWESOME HULK it was in the context of a conversation where Jake mentioned the type of woman that his parents were wanting him to marry, so my memory blurred that with the reveal of his boyfriend. Whoops!

So THAT criticism of the Jake/Aaron hook-up is retracted.

So now that Spider-verse has been out for a while, what do y'all think about the speculation that the film is hinting at trans Gwen Stacy? It is interesting and the theory definitely has some legs, but I don't think Sony has the guts to allow the filmmakers to outright confirm that, so it will remain sub-textual and open to interpretation.

She’s not. They would have gotten a trans actress for her instead of Hailee Steinfeld.
Just like they got Danielle Perez, a handicap queer actress, to voice Sun-Spider.

Spider-Gwen is an ally because a background artist thought it would be cool to add the flag to her room. That’s cool.
But there was no creative think tank from the movie creators to make Gwen trans. So she isn’t.
But people are free to choose their own head canon.

Its implied anyway -- although the story did leave it somewhat ambiguous. But yeah, Candra is another character who was apparently outed there. Gimmick's story also outed an established character and introduced a new X-couple. I just didn't want to go into detail about every character who appeared and/or got outed in case some people haven't had a chance to read the issue yet and wanted a few surprises.
