Nobody even mentioned the story or dialogue at all in all of the news and reports I've seen. The outrage seems to be exclusively aimed at the images of them kissing, touching or sleeping on the same bed.

Anyway, their kiss just got even more iconic as it ended up on the front page of Brazil's biggest newspaper:



AND on the 7th of September (Brazil's Independence Day) issue, nonetheless. It doesn't get any more poetic than that. We've truly lived to see this kiss become a political symbol against homophobic censorship.

It's a low point for our country. But I'd say still a pro for Young Avengers anyway lol. So many people who had no idea about them found oua bout them. They were on the newspaper. The book yesterday got sold out before the confiscation. And afaik they're only stopping it from being on this event, not officially censuring it everywhere.

Well, now it looked like the fucking censorship went through after all. Ugh.

Just saw that. From my understanding, it's not a full ban. It looks like some fucking guy from the Justice Tribunal ruled that they could remove books that weren't properly sealed and without a warning about their content. So the books can be there, as long as they comply with these rules. It's obviously an LGBTQphobic motivated decision, as they are only doing this **** to books with LGBTQ themes and not giving a crap about other potential sensitive/inappropriate material. I'm not even sure if they will be able to do anything about Children's Crusade, though, simply because the book already sold out. I'm not sure if the people who were selling at Bienal are going to restock, and if they do, I'm not sure if they're gonna follow the established rules. It would be funny if they restocked and it quickly sold out again. This could be a bad thing for other books that are not as quick to sell, though.

Not sure how that's gonna unfold, but with this new development, people are going to be very, very mad, and we're still gonna have so much discussion about this. I'm expecting Wiccan and Hulkling to be the poster boys against censorship for a little longer now.

My guess is that they simply don't think the brazilian market matters enough, and since it looked like the whole situation had a happy ending before, it's not like they felt the need to protest. Now that things have taken a turn, though, it WOULD be nice if they released a statement against censorship and standing by their stories. I don't think it'd make any literal difference, BUT it would at least be a moral blow to the brazilian government to be confronted by a huge company like Marvel. I'm not expecting them to do that, though, due to the recent ''apolitical'' controversies they've been through. If they don't have the balls to criticize their own government, I don't think they're going to do it to somebody else's.

Alpha Flight: True North - Northstar IS in this, but it is basically only a cameo, unfortunately. But given that Jean-Paul has gotten more attention than most of the other Alpha Flight characters in this story in recent years, thanks to his time with the X-Men, I guess that's fair. For what its worth, Northstar's cameo had him in a speedo.

Well, another update. Earlier today evil was defeated again and the order to confiscate Children's Crusade and other LGBT-related books got revoked. The mayor said he was gonna try to appeal against that(aka bring back the censorship that got previously denied, then allowed, and now denied again), but that was like 7 hours ago and the event is about to end so afaik things went smoothly this last day and the final decision was against censorship.

The mayor said he was gonna try to appeal against that(aka bring back the censorship that got previously denied, then allowed, and now denied again), but that was like 7 hours ago and the event is about to end so afaik things went smoothly this last day and the final decision was against censorship.

I'm glad they changed their minds on that. Hopefully this will keep that mayor from trying anything similarly stupid again...but he doesn't sound like the type to learn his lesson that easily.
