I'm not too worried. I think he'll be back next issue. Maybe via some techno organic trickery.
With Doug back it reopened the forgotten potential door for Marvel.Back in the days Doug was borderline useless unless a translation was needed but now in modern times he is one of the best characters that Marvel have.Honestly Shield should have him on their top 5 mutants list to capture. To be even more honest once it become by all that he's back he should be the most sought after mutant on the planet by both heroes and villains alike. And I can easily see him and Warlock getting a book together because there is literally thousands of stories that Marvel can write about him and Warlock. And even though I hate this idea he could very easily be a villain in today's modern world because as the saying goes " Knowledge is power " and for the mutant that can understand all language especially digital who can stop him from knowing everything that's supposed to be a secret?
Won't get the issue till after work. Would love a spoiler on Doug's situation by issues end.
I hope that Doug's powers are toned down just a bit: I thought it was cool that he could read people's moves in combat, but when he started reading the language of everything under the sun during the last few issues of New Mutants, he was getting dangerously close to Mary Sue/deus ex machina territory.
Eh....with his body type Cypher will probably never completely a Mary Sue / Deus ex machina. Physically speaking he is probably the most "normal" of any super hero. In fact some could argue he is below average. That gives him enough of a weakness to stay out of the "overpowered" pool.
Thanks for the info. I figure he's not being killed off. What would be cool though and ratchet up the drama is if she did kill him but has the power to bring him back and does. Considering Doug's state, this would mess him up quite a bit.
Last XFactor ran for over 10 years, and David didn't permanently kill off any of his cast. Lots of teases. I just can't see him doing it with Doug. He seemed interested to write him, and he's barely even started. I'm only slightly worried.
Fun issue though.
Haven't read the issue yet but I'm confident that Doug isn't dead for good. PAD has so far just hinted at things he'll be exploring with him. Maybe he really died and the TO virus in his systeem brings him back. Finding out that he cannot die even if he wanted to could really shock Doug since he wants to die and doesn't think he should be alive.
And when it comes to his powers I agree that it's great that he can read body language now making him a great fighter and that along with him being able to use his language skill better in current digital age will make him a formidable and useful character so no need for him to be able to read everything as a language.
Yeah, I agree Tomppa. Actually, I'd like to see him have to do a bit of training, or that he has done some martial arts training recently. Along the lines of "now I can read body language and have an advantage in a fight; how can I actually use it in the field." I don't like it when things come too easily.
Interesting point about how he'll feel if he turns out to be immortal, when he's near suicidal because he's worried about his potential for evil. It's a lot to process.
That sounds like a cool idea. Even if he isn't straight up immortal, I imagine he'd be freaked to know his cliff idea wouldn't work. It should make him realize he needs to face his evil Doug fears.
