I've been wondering why Marvel keeps flooding its universe with Spider-People that make their #1 worldwide commercial property (Spider-Man) less unique. After all, the "Superman Family" didn't exactly make Superman look more unique. It did, however, make him look more "Patriarchal". Like Superman in the Superman Family, Spider-Man will always be the de-facto leader of a group of Spider-People.

Whereas he plays the corny comic relief in most other team situations.

If you have a story where Peter must be a great leader, you bring in the Web Warriors (what I now call the whole Spider-Family). If your story needs him in more of a sidekick role, you make it an Avengers story.

Otherwise... I'm not fully understanding Marvel's strategy. I hope it's more complex than just "If one Spider-Man sells this much, 10 Spider-Men will sell 10x more". Because Spidey really DOES seem less unique as what appears to be just a cog in a franchise.

PS: Since we're talking about the Spider-Books, anyone reading Renew Your Vows? For the second time, Marvel has Peter deciding to wear the B&W costume that his wife (and now daughter) are deathly afraid of. WHAT THE F*** IS WRONG WITH QUESADA/ALONSO'S PETER PARKER? Why does this ahole keep putting on a costume that his wife and daughter have NIGHTMARES about? He did the same thing when May was dying, they called it "Back In Black" even though they did an awful job explaining Peter's reasoning even back then. CREATE A NEW BADASS COSTUME IF YOU NEED TO LOOK BADASS, STOP TERRORIZING YOUR OWN FAMILY WITH THAT ONE!

I get that the costume sells more books, but I need better IN-STORY reasons for Peter to keep not giving a f*** that he's causing his family PTSD.

None of Spidey's enemies fear the black costume. Only his own family. The guy is ultimately sick to keep finding reasons to put it on.
I read somewhere that Marvel are trying to franchise their main characters the same way the DC has, so you have Batman, Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, etc etc who can all sell their own books. They started it with Hulk and co and now all the main characters are expanding. Two multiple Hulks and Spiders, Cap's, I'm sure there will be additional Iron-Man books/characters soon .

Wait, wait, wait... they're using Silver Surfer to create a new universe for a singular secondary recently-created character that has never once interacted with him? Immediately after resetting everything to make it easier for everyone to interact?

    I don't even...

I just noticed the SW#8 cover.

    1. Three of those flashbacks are Spider-Man related. Everyone else only gets one.

    2. So it all ends with a big Reed vs Doom fight? Was this unavoidable the minute the decision was made to make Doom the big baddie in this one? I was hoping the friendship with Dr Strange was indicative of Doom interacting with fresh people.

Am I the only one feeling a little let-down that it isn't someone else on that cover with Doom? It's not even the way superior and more interesting Maker. It's boring old 616 Reed.

I'm willing to bet Doom has more fans than Reed does at this point. It might be time for Marvel to stop restricting these two to one another. Their creators are gone. It's okay for them to see other people. :P

Well spidergwens charm is having her own universe. And i doubt surfers creating the new Marvel universe, the cover of 8 implies a genesis. While Surfers book ends in sept or so while creating his Universe.

I don't think those what if ares in Canon, more like esleworlds

No, they're all canon. That's why Marvel didn't simply call this "What If"-verse (they own the trademark and it's very clear what it is when you use it).

Marvel made a big stink about Battleworld being the new Marvel Universe for a while. It doesn't get much more canon than that.

They avoided talking about the 2nd reset button coming, because they want these books to mean something... but they can't have their cake and eat it too. This is all canon, the whole mess of it... all the alternate versions, everything... whatever interactions are happening, are really happening. Even if they all get their minds wiped in the end, it still technically happened.

Marvel made this very clear from the beginning. Which doesn't mean they haven't changed their minds along the way. They've gone back on early event promises many times in the past, when it meant more money.

Apparently one of those destroyed is the Ultimate Universe, we're not sure if Battleworld is destroyed or not, but it's made clear that Spider Gwen goes back to her Universe and I would assume the same for the Web Warriors. I also strongly believe that Contest of Champions will be alternate characters.
I dont see any mention of a multiverse post Sw.

Parts of battleworld might remain on battleworld though

The Ultimate universe is stated as gone, the entire team of squadron supreme is from dead universes that don't exist anymore, marvel said there's nips and tucks too. Many battleworld regions and Characters are in this universe, we have to wait for more books to be announced.

There never was gonna be a reboot or every character being replaced, they are doing the same thing Dc did with Lady Quark but not merge 5 earths into one or reset characters back.

I see they're re-introducing BLADE as a female youth, like Ms Marvel.

Wesley Snipes has been in talks with Marvel about a new project. This could be a transition movie where Blade's kid takes over for daddy. But Marvel's going to have a tough time getting a female vampire-hunter over. Buffy comparisons are unavoidable.

Man, all of this sounds fantastic. I'm in for so much of it

But damn, I hope this is it for the "new volume #1" crap. Enough. Please go back to the legacy numbering soon.

sounds like they're upgrading to monster hunter. So maybe that'll add new life to the franchise.

There are only four well known Vampire Hunters to begin with - Van Helsing, Blade, Buffy and Abraham Lincoln.

The field is not that deep to begin with. Any new addition is likely to be met with comparison issues.

What about the Belmont Clan (from Castlevania)? Simon, Trevor, Richter, and so on?
She is Kamala Khan... The Magnificent Ms. Marvel!

Yeah I'm with you on this. Sounds just absolutely ridiculous. Just 1 main Marvel Universe BUT with just a small other universe JUST for Spidergwen since.....well, her book was so popular?

But everything was suppose to change after SW, right (because they even held a conference this time!!!)? It's funny how a lot of people were thinking it was a reboot....but honestly, NOTHING has changed. I'm glad mostly because I didn't want a reboot, but again, it was a PERFECT opportunity to clean up a lot of junk. Having 1 Marvel universe was a good start...and if that was all we were going to get then I was cool with that.

Now there seems to be an exception to the rule since one recently introduced character became popular (i.e. flash-in-a-pan)? What is there to prevent 'other' exceptions from happening? Answer: there isn't.

So, in the end, nothing has changed.
