Default Which Movie Will Do Better- Civil War or BvS?

Both in the box office and the critics' reviews?

Just what you think for now... we can revisit this when the time comes.

Many are praising BvS based on the latest trailer alone, and with the Trinity finally in the same movie(outside Lego the Movie lol), it may easily earn a lot of money from the get go. Question is, will Civil War earn more, esp. with how Stark/Cap are already well known to the viewers + the first appearance of Spidey in the MCU?

Would have been interesting if Warner didnt change the release date of BvS. But nonetheless, the two are just 1 month and a week away from eachother, and many will see comparisons(top heroes fighting eachother).

    I... really don't know lol.

Obviously both will make crazy amounts of money. I think whatever has the best reviews and ratings will ultimately win out due to having more legs at the theater.

I am going to assume CW will get better ratings. The Russo's killed Winter Soldier, both at the box office and rating wise. On the other side of the coin, Snyder's MoS didn't get great reviews.

Batman changes everything... but then again, the last 3 movies with RDJ have done over a billino (Av, IM3, AoU)

    So... F idk...

I guess I will go with CW. The combination of the Russo's + Marvel + RDJ + basically being an Avengers film + potential Spider-Man + first appearance of Black Panther >>> Superman + Batman + Wonder Woman appearance + seeds to JL

They are both going ot murder the box office though, so much so that I have a bad feeling about X-Men Apocalypse

So I just voted for the one I didn't want *facepalm*.

I think Captain America: Civil War probably takes the critics, but Batman vs. Superman takes the box office. People haven't seen Batman vs. Superman in a film before, and I think that will create a lot of curiosity. However, I don't know how well received it will be. Either way, I think the box office of Batman vs. Superman will affect the box office of Captain America: Civil War (unless Marvel really markets it as different). If Batman vs. Superman does well, it reinvigorates the genre and people who side on the "Marvel sucks! DC rules!" end of the fandom will see Captain America: Civil War, just to compare it. If Batman vs. Superman bombs, it could potentially make people wary of superhero films, especially one that appears similiar in concept.

Batman is a bigger draw than Captain America, even after the Winter Soldier. Superman is still an icon. Put the two in the same movie and there'll be more of a to-do than the first Avengers. Add in Wonder Woman, and I think we have a big winner.

Also after the last reboot Spidey isn't looking at as wide an appeal as he once did, but hopefully his MCU stuff will change that.

Feel good movies generally have a better chance of success than gloomy ones, so that gives the edge to CW. BvS will have to break new ground, as Winter Soldier did, and prove that a monster blockbuster can be released in March - which I'm dubious of. But I was dubious a monster blockbuster could be released in April.

In the end, I expect that Civil War will do about twice the business that Dawn of Justice will do, for a variety of reasons. I personally doubt I will see either of them, unless they give me reason to believe that they are going to do a seriously better job with CW than the comics did.

I think Civil War will be the better film. I honestly can't say which will make more money.

    Ask me next year

What I think...hmm, depending on what?

I am more a DC guy than Marvel - so, I should opt for BvS (and there are good reasons to do so - 2 Popular Icons first time in live action, WW etc). But, MOS didn't do so well (it did make money - both in theaters and through Bluray sales), but reception was mixed (IMO, script was the major problem and WB has brought in Terrio to write the script for BvS). I liked his work in Argo.

At the same time, there are many reasons to get excited for CW (Russos - their work with WS; I believe WS is the best Marvel movie to date, Marvel's track record).

Of course, none of these things warrant success. Future is far more unpredictable, right?

Money - BvS - 60% chance that it's going to make more money.
Script - CW - 51% chance that it's going to be the better film.

    Just my guess!

We should be getting CW footage in the next few months...that might give us an idea of how it will do (then again, trailers these days can be quite misleading).
    DC Extended Universe Thread (DCEU)

That's how it starts. The fever. The rage. The feeling of powerlessness. That turns good men....Cruel - Alfred.

This may be the only thing that I do that matters - Bruce.

Stay down, if I wanted it, you would be dead already - Clark.

I think BvS will make more money. Civil War could possibly match BvS — Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man and everyone in the MCU minus Thor, Dr. Strange and Captain Marvel seem to be in it. We'll find out. Those are going to be two huge movies next year. I think the Russo bros were the right guys to hand the job to. It depends on the story and how well it's conveyed. I don't think it will "Civil War" in concept more than execution, i.e. Cap won't die, and the new-new Spider-Man can't figure too largely since they're going to reboot him all over again.

BvS will be huge, though. No doubt about it.

P.S. AJ, I don't think Civil War is going to be marketed as a "feel good" movie. It shouldn't be, and if it turns out to be Age of Ultron all over again, I don't think they'll get away with it this time.

Eh, only Guardians and Ant Man have been marketed as feel good movies, but they've all turned out that way. Even Winter Soldier. All Marvel movies are feel good movies. It's part of their formula for success.

    Split:

BvS will probably bring in a better box office, but I think Civil War will be a more critically acclaimed movie.

    Thank you.

BvS will make a buttload of money, the same way Transformers, Avatar, and Twilight made a buttload of money. But they're not good films. Civil War will make less, but it'll be the better film.
