I'm actually okay with M's rather reserved look, honestly. I used to HATE some of the stuff they put her in during X-Factor, like that Rolling Stones t-shirt...that's not M at *all*. She's never been a flashy character. It also kinda hearkens back to her snarking at Emma back in those early Gen-X issues about how little she wears, LOL.
About 20 years ago there was a website devoted to Monet and one explanation was that M is the center of the alphabet and the 13th letter which had some significance as we later saw with the whole "real Monet"/the twins/Penance plot. Wasn't her original name supposed to be Asylum?
I always wondered what Mike Silvestri's "M" would have looked like, stylistically. I'd love to see the character "claremazon'ed" out.
[QUOTE=ou·tré;2246951]I agree--I want her styled as simple chic with maybe subtle ornate features but artists don't usually have her looking refined in any way.
I really loved her red/purple costume with the arm capes. It was elegant and yet reserved, very M to me.I loathed that Rolling Stones shirt, but liked the long black trenchcoat she sometimes wore with it.
M is totally the Gabrielle Union of any book she's in, lol.

I think it comes from her mother's side while the "St. Croix" comes from her father's side. I know she's had a chip on her shoulder about her father for a while now, while I can't remember any of the St. Croix kids ever having issues with Mom (RIP), so that might explain it. Either that or her mother was simply more religious than her father and that made Islam the obvious choice growing up (similar to my own background, where we all just sort of adopted my father's religion by default without much if any education about my mother's).
I'm fine with it, but I think Dust might have a choice word or two with Monet about Monet's ideas of actually practicing their religion (a.k.a. it doesn't seem like Monet does much when it comes to her religion). XD
Note: I don't know if maybe Dust and Monet are different kinds of Muslims or anything like that.

I honestly did not like PAD's M all that much. She seemed to loose all her intelligence(not to imply Muslims aren't intelligent, that is besides the point), particularly. I guess all those flashbacks of M's family life just never seemed to convey anything remotely close to an Islamic upbringing(I remember distinctly some flashbacks of her and Marius drinking champagne and another scene of her recalling old Christmas memories). When PAD brought it up, it seemed to come out of nowhere, and lead to nothing.

The loss of intelligence was something I hated, too, BUT I went back and re-read late Generation X and it seemed that was more an aspect of Twins-Monet than the "real" Monet. Not to say M isn't still smart, but she's more condescending/bitchy without the intelligent insults too.
M and Marius drinking champagne was during a dream sequence. And it wouldn't surprise me if they still celebrated Christmas even if they didn't do much other "Christian" stuff in their childhoods -- after all, who doesn't love Christmas? Of course, Monet has lied about her childhood in order to over-idealize it to others before; Christmas memories could be a part of that, especially since she was speaking to an American audience (Jubes, Husk, and Emma) or mostly American audience (Generation X excluding Chamber, Banshee, and Penance).
