Default The Spectre by John Ostrander: Yay or Nay?

Hey guys, I was wondering something. I just recently picked up The Spectre: Crimes and Judgments Vol. 1 and it's not bad from the first issue I read of it and I'm now intrigued to read more.

    So I'm wondering two things.
    1. Is it worth continuing on with the comic beyond the first volume? Does it get better as time goes on?
    2. What's your thoughts on the run? Did you like John Ostrander's work and if you did, what made it so good, special, or worth reading to you? Just curious.

Also, is his Martian Manhunter run any good as well? Not related to the Spectre, but curious none the less.

I've also only read a few scattered issues myself, but I've heard the entire run is pretty solid so I recommend you keep reading it.

His MM series is also good.

A massive, resounding "YAY" from me! One of my favorite series of all time. It approaches faith in a thoughful and meaningful way, something that is truly rare in comics.

A big yay. Ostrander/Mandrake Spectre is an awesome series. Ostrander did an awesome job of humanizing the spectre through the use of Corrigan.

Definitely Yay. I though it was very good and one of the issues has the first appearance of one of my all time favorite characters Mr. Terrific. There is too much I have read with Ostrander that I didn't enjoy.

    Highest recommendation

    I'll take Ostrander's Spectre over Robinson's Starman.

Martain Manhunter is only above average, get The Spectre first.
    I am NOT comics.

Basically everything Ostrander is good but nothing stands up to his Spectre

Yeah, it's very good. It has great art by Mandrake, deals with DCU cosmic/supernatural and it's one of the few Big Two series where the writer is let to end the character's story.

A big fat yay for me!

Now go pre order vol 2 before DC does something stupid like cancel it!

Its John Ostrander, so naturally it's good.

My own favourite John O run is Suicide Squad, but I can easily see why many prefer the Spectre run, not least because the Tom Mandrake artwork is exceptional.

I liked his Martian Manhunter run, though it is more divisive than the Spectre run. And it's clear that Spectre run comes to finish that the two creators always planned, while plug on MM was pulled because of poor sales.

You're not going to find a Nay. Seriously. I've never heard of someone reading this book and not loving it.
Hope is not lost today. It is found.

I have to say, though, that I didn't like what happened to spoilers:
    Amy Beitermann
    end of spoilers.

Which is why it had to happen. Bad things happen because of characters' actions and it all plays into the very end of the series.

Which means THUMBS UP! THUMBS UP! THUMBS UP!

Yeah, I know. I just think that spoilers:
she should have lasted longer because their relationship had so much potential.
    end of spoilers
