If Sony still owned the film rights to Spider-Man, would Marvel use him less in the All-New, All-Different Marvel?

Sorry if this topic has been covered already, but if Sony never bothered to allow Marvel to use Spider-Man in their films, how much do you think Marvel would have used Spider-Man in their comics under their new direction? Would he stop appearing in the Avengers? Would there be no spider-related titles such as Silk, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, etc etc etc? Or would everything remain the same?

Still disappointed with no FF titles and the direction of X-Men comics. Couldn't imagine Marvel comics without Spider-Man.

Probably not. Marvel without Spider-Man is akin to DC without Batman. He's their flagship character even if the MCU has made other characters household names. They didn't cut back much on using the character when Sony initially decided to make Amazing Spider-Man, did they? Fantastic Four certainly has a fanbase but it's not as big as Spidey's. Dropping him from the books would have simply been more money lost. You could make that same argument for what they're doing with F4, and you wouldn't be wrong IMO.

I would have to agree with Taylor, its more than likely they wouldn't have dropped Spidey. The only reason debatebale that Marvel are canceling the F4 is because the gain of having a book you make money on and what Fox gets has a large margin. The F4 sales have been constantly low for the past couple of runs and in the mean time fox can benefit because the general public will go to their movie which I could be wrong Marvel doesn't see any of it. Marvel and Fox bad relationship Marvel and Sony good relationship that's seems to be the bottom line.

Marvel have always owned mechandise rights to Spider-man.

Even without the film rights (which they still don't have) they wouldn't have used him less.

With or without the movies, Spider-man is Marvel's cash cow.

X-Men and F4 are treated badly because of the bad deal abd relationship with Fox. Sony and Marvel always had the better relationship which is even better now with the current deal.

From Marvel's perspective, Sony had a better relationship with them, so it was not going to have any impact.

However, I imagine there would be less Spider-titles if Fox owned the Spider-Man film rights, as each of those books would represent material for a potential spinoff that will make them money.

Sony's deal with Marvel following Marvel's acquisition by Disney meant that Sony earned nothing from the Spider-Man merchandise. Marvel/Disney had the merchandising rights, and they had the TV animation rights to the character as well (this is why Spectacular Spider-Man came to an end).

So even if the current MCU deal had not happened, Spider-Man would not be in the same position as the X-Men or Fantastic Four.

Fox and Marvel had bad blood dating back to the Mutant X fiasco. The situation with the X-Men and FF simply doesn't apply to Spidey.

THe X-Men movies are doing well again but the books are kinda in trouble.
The last 2 FF movies were abandoned and forsaken; the books haven't been doing so well after Hickman.
The Spidey movies sucked from SM3 to present but hasn't been much problems with his books.
The MCU made the Avengers too damn popular but comic-wise the Bendis relaunch put them back on the map.

Considering that, no matter what they try with Iron Man, Spider-Man is their flagship character, I can't see them ever actually downplaying Spider-Man. He's just too much of a cash cow. Even before the deal was struck, Spider-Man was the only Marvel character that had not only a main book, but several "family"/satellite titles something normally only reserved to team books.

They were doing plenty with Spidey and his comic franchise long before Sony shared the movie rights with Marvel. So it would not have changed anything. He's still a big name in the comic book market.

Film rights are a different issue than whether the film is successful.

Higher-ups at Disney don't like that new Marvel comics with the Fantastic Four and X-Men are essentially IP factories for Fox Studios. Granted, there have been enough X-Men and Fantastic Four comics published already that new material isn't going to make a difference.
