Remember Desert Island Books? Like if you were stranded on a desert island, what 5 books would you want to have with you in such a scenario?
And then how that somehow became Desert Island DVDs ... which made no sense at all except to point out how few books people seemed to read these days?
Well, how about this thought exercise:
Let's say you are somehow being sent to prison, but with these conditions:
- It's for 5 years (minimum) with zero chance of parole or early release.
- It's solitary confinement in a cell that has a working toilet and sink, a bunk with mattress, pillow and blanket, a slot for food. And perched on a high corner, a single TV that you cannot reach, there's a button close by to turn on and off and that's it.
- Oh, and in another corner where you can't reach, a camera always watching you. Escape is impossible.
- This prison for some reason has access to every tv show ever made, in their entirety. And you can choose any 5 tv shows to watch, in their entirety on a repeating loop, for the duration of your stay.
- Once you choose those 5 shows and begin your sentence, you cannot make any changes. For the next 5 (or more) years, you are stuck watching those same 5 shows over and over again, from the pilots to the last episodes. No commercials. No news, sports or weather. No documentaries, must be scripted programming.
Which 5 shows (and they must be tv shows: no movies, no shorts, no webisodes that aren't ready-made into 30 min or 60 min episodes) would you pick to be your only companions for your 5-year stay?
I'm not sure of my 5 yet , although I'm gonna say
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION would probably make my cut. I'll figure out the other 4 later.
How about your choices?
