SECRET ORIGIN was garbage. BIRTHRIGHT was great, especially the first half.
The pre-NEW 52 Superman had a kind of CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE origin.

Secret Origins was so-and-so. The first two issues are great, even if a bit all over the place. The third issue is not-so-good, and it just gets worse from there. Combine that with the somewhat one-dimensional take on General Lane, Johns' masturbating to the Donner films, Parasite's pointless inclusion, and that horrible, horrible Metallo costume, and it's just an absolute failure in its second half.
Haven't got around to reading Birthright yet (I know, shocking), but a comic-book reading acquaintance of me didn't like it because she thought it was too "preachy" at some parts. I also heard that it experiences a significant drop-off in quality during the second half.

Grant Morrison's New 52 Superman origin was far and away the best of the bunch. Stick with that and you'll be fine.
Once again, Why not read all of them. You're best opinion is your own. Threads like these only hurt to understand all Era's of the character by focusing on only one era when in fact you should explore all of them. Superman is the blueprint and the greatest of them all for a reason and to truly understand why he is the greatest you must discover and read as much about the character that is possible.
Once again opinions are a dime a dozen ( including mine) your best opinion is your's and you do that by reading as much as possible and never limit yourself.
All the way with Birthright. Secret Origin was a nostalgy exercise, akin with Superman Returns.
