    Some takeaways...
It's a great showing for Oppenheimer, which is the heavy favorite.
It's a slight upset that DiCaprio didn't get a nomination for Killers of the Flower Moon, but I would rather have both Colman Domingo and Jeffrey Wright as nominated actors.
The weirdest nomination is the Chilean vampire film El Conde for cinematography.
It's seen as strange that Barbie didn't get expected nominations for Best Director and Best Actress, but that America Ferrera was nominated for supporting actress. She had a great monologue, but it could be that X percent of the vote is enough in this category and not in another. I suspect a problem for Margot Robbie is that it seems hard to imagine her performance being anyone's first choice in the year Emma Stone did Poor Things.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

Yorgos Lanthimos seems to have a knack to get Oscar nominations and a win for his movies.

I'm a bit shocked that there is nothing for Beau Is Afraid, of course it was a very divisive film but it should have at least gotten a nomination for production design.

I'm bummed Suzume didn't get nominated, but Miyazaki's final (or maybe not) movie might have been too much tough competition. At least Elemental made the cut, that should send a message to Disney who are currently sending their recent Disney+ toon movies to theaters for a while this year.

Super Mario Bros. should have received a nomination for animated film. It wouldn't have won, but it at least should have received a nomination.

    A24 killed it this year...

    Beau is Afraid
    Past Lives
    Dream Scenario
    The Iron Claw
    Talk to Me

Haven't seen Occupied City or Zone of Interest.

I haven't seen everything yet but I'm pulling for The Holdovers...to make a teacher/chrismas movie feel fresh and new is a hell of an accomplishment. And Giamati is long overdue that guy has been a workhorse for 25 years

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

The Academy is fickle, so winning isn't a sure thing for anybody. But to me Oppenheimer is one of the best films in the last decade and deserving of at least best movie and director.

The Oscars also need to work on their credibility most of the great filmmakers of the last 20 years have been snubbed because of identity politics and money from streaming sites. So getting Tarantino, Nolan, Aronofsky, and PT Anderson oscars over the next couple is a priority.
