Am I the only one who didn't like the new roar? I've always been partial to the higher pitched, metallic roar. To me, it's one of the most iconic sound effects in film.

They were given the original sound files and loved it. It was not high enough fidelity to go in digital (ATMOS being the bigger problem) and most modern theaters, so they had to recreate it with the notes given from Toho. They used the same Japanese mics, leather glove with pine tar on a double bass, and everything. But they still couldn't get it to work. They ended up having use sounds outside of human hearing range, bring them back into our range, and then they could make a new roar. And the sound engineers won't even tell the director who they did it.

You're not the only one but most people that don't like the new roar don't think its new; they think the sound file was just embellished.

I prefer the original 1954 the best still.

Godzilla 2014's roar was a little too high pitched for my tastes; the 1954 roar remains the gold standard, and for me, it's largely because it's so deep, low, and bassy. Godzilla never sounded better (more terrifying) than he did in the original 1954 film.

The second film (GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN) did something very strange: it gave Godzilla the roar of *Anguirus*, which was especially weird considering that Anguirus was his opponent in that movie.

One additional note on Godzilla's inland trek across the U.S. in the Marvel Comics series: that was Rob Takiguchi/Red Ronin's fault. At the end of Godzilla and Red Ronin's indecisive battle in San Diego, Rob (using Red Ronin's enormous armored hand) pointed Godzilla eastward. That crazy kid should have used Red Ronin's other hand and pointed Godzilla towards the Pacific.

It's kind of odd that Godzilla would head east just because that's the direction that Red Ronin pointed him in.

The funny thing is he kept on going...until he was in Colorado! I'd have thought he would have turned around and headed back towards the Pacific long before that, or maybe down into the Gulf of Mexico through Texas.

No kidding. This brand of smiley must be cheaper.

The fateful point that sent Godzilla eastward to rampage across the inland U.S.:

Everyone needs to take a cross country trip at some point.
Except Anguirus, dude stays frosty at home.

I guess since it was Godzilla's first trip to the States (other than a brief visit to New York in 1968/1999), he wanted to see the sights, and he saw and smashed quite a few tourist traps...Alaskan oil pipeline, Seattle Space Needle, Golden Gate Bridge, San Diego Naval Shipyard, Hoover Dam, Vega$, the Grand Canyon, New York Natural History Museum, Times Square, Empire State Building...he saw them all and smashed about half of them.

If it were today instead of the 1970s, we would have likely have been subject to dozens of daikaiju-scale selfies.

I didn't realize anyone was paying for the old ones.
It's a joke, but the only explanation I can think of for why we've switched to these economy-brand smilies.

So anyone else participating in getting the 98 Zilla film back in theaters in the only format to do it justice?

I'm more interested in the stretch goal: riffing Anaconda!

Well, New York's on the water...I understand Marvel has a couple characters based there...
