I dug it...just saw it this afternoon
a favorite part of mine towards the end of the movie
spoilers:end of spoilers
G takes a little catnap after taking out the MUTOs.....just lays down in the middle of the city, like "yeah, just gonna lay here for a minute...collect my ****"
also...I am calling that last attack the "Atomic Lozenge"
So what happened to this critter from the SDCC trailer?

Pretty much everything from that trailer was missing from the film, the crushed train for instance.
changes get made...probably concept stuff that got changed or cut during post
I had the urge to whip out my phone and play the MK Finish Her/Fatality voice clips in the theater during that scene
I think Gareth Edwards must have been a big fan of Marvel's GODZILLA book because there's precedent in that series for the "Kiss of Death" method of kaiju destruction:
Now that I think about it, Godzilla 2014 has quite a few personality similarities with Marvel Godzilla.

Problem is, there's too many heroes there. You can't just have big G wreck NYC, Spider-Man wouldn't have anywhere to wall-crawl, and you can't throw all of Marvel's NYC heroes at him, it'd be over kill. Maybe if he just stuck to the area outside the city, but where's the fun in that?
is there a way to air drop Godzilla into Salt Lake City?
I want to see the Mormons pray into their magic plates or pants whatever

Not sure why the '98 Godzilla has gotten so much scorn/derision/hatred over the years. It's the only Godzilla movie I've sat all the way through, and I felt the lizard-like, sinewy Godzilla in this was much more menacing than the old rotund Godzilla from the original movies. The effects were decent (for a late '90's film), and I liked the numerous "baby" Godzillas that hatched in Madison Square Garden, who were much smaller but also extremely dangerous/menacing.
The very ending definitely opened the door for a sequel, but I'm guessing the film didn't do well enough at the box office to warrant a second movie...
I also liked Cloverfield & Monsters, so I may be in the minority re: my opinion on these modern monster films...
For some reason, I don't have a lot of interest in seeing Godzilla 2014; the trailers look impressive, but I don't like the way Godzilla looks - kind of like a large snapping turtle..but then, I didn't think the original Godzilla looked that great, and this appears to be based on this version.....
