Default Was Marvel right to cancel the FF because the movie ?

The new Fox's movie has catastrophic reviews (21%on rotten tomatoes).
Now the mass audience and many comic readers are just going to think of the franchise as an out dated concept.
From that I guess they are right to put FF characters in teams with more commercial potential.

Do you think Marvel strategy is going to limit the damages ?

To go by previous discussions, it was done to spite Fox, and subsequently garner talk about the FF; then breaking them up and putting them in different titles will breathe new life into each character and then make people long for the original FF.

    Time will tell.

Title: We don't know that the comic was cancelled because of the movie. A more likely explanation was that Hickman knew Secret Wars was coming and opted to just end early rather than try to stuff another of his planned arcs in the limited time he was allotted.
1: Movies can review terribly and still be enjoyable, movies can also have excellent reviews and not be enjoyable because everyone has different tastes in movies.
2: Comic readers and the mass audience either like the Fantastic Four and will continue to like them or they already disliked the FF and use whatever they can find as 'proof' that their view is objective proof when it is subjective.
3: The concept that superheroes show up in other teams is not new. By the same logic Spider-Man and Wolverine becoming Avengers was because Marvel thought they were outdated concepts and needed the Avengers to prop them up. We also don't know why the FF are not in a team together because the Secret Wars, which is a Fantastic Four event, is not over to tell us what happens to them.
4: Marvel doesn't need to limit any damage because of point #2. People that enjoy the FF will continue to buy and support whatever they are in, people that don't like the FF weren't ever interested in any books they were in and therefore do not factor into sales.

Then eventually Marvel will relaunch with a new FF 1, which will be a huge book for them. It's a sound, but frustrating business strategy.

Hickman wasn't writing the FF just prior to Secret Wars. Do you mean Robinson?

This seems a "to save the village, we had to BURN the village" type of argument.

I don't think it's accurate to say that Fantastic Four was cancelled because of the film. Take Deadpool, for example. He has a major, highly-anticipated film arriving from Fox, and yet not only does he have his own ANAD title, he has a duo book with Spider-Man, and is a member of Uncanny Avengers. There is no reason to assume Fantastic Four was cancelled for any reason other than its sales were less than what Marvel wants them to be. As others have stated, taking something away like this will cause a big boost in the book's sales when it eventually returns. It is a formula they have repeatedly used and been successful with.

It's a little early to call the movie a failure when it hasn't been released. General audiences don't always follow critics

Exactly. Sales for the Fantastic Four have been lackluster ever since Hickman left the title. Even critical darling Matt Fraction couldn't get it up. Marvel's gonna wait it out until someone comes along with a killer pitch and interest in the team comes back up.

The "lackluster" sales were a lot better than many titles that Marvel continues to push.

It was the end of Robinson's run on the book, be it because of sales or Secret Wars being around the corner or he didn't feel like continuing.

If anyone thinks they're gonna end the Fantastic Four on this run, well...

IT WASN'T because of Fox. It was because FF was not selling. They did not do it to spite Fox

Maybe not to the level that Marvel wanted but other titles continued with lower sales. Loki, Storm etc. for example.

It does look like Perlmutter is being his usual loveable, rational self about this, and isn't taking things personally at all.
