I saw it last night & honestly expected the worst because of the negativity this has been getting. I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as everyone's claiming but my only complaint was many scenes cut from the final film. Scenes that were all clearly in the trailers. I absolutely hate when movie studios do this. Don't put scenes that won't make it off the cutting room floor when assembling trailer for release. It's like getting short changed when buying a ticket. Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man 2 suffered a similar fate. It also sucks when exec's & studio heads interfere with a director/writers full vision & come out with a picture that's sub par. Anyway, the films under a little 2 hours so it's a fast set up that seems to beckon a sequel but now that seems quite dire. It's also a lot less cartoony than the Jessica Alba movies while Victor (Doom) only comes in at the end. This FF was also a bit more grounded & less bubble gum than it's predecessor. I've certainly seen much more worse movies than this.

I just got back from seeing it and this is probably the unpopular answer but I really liked it. It was no Winter Soldier or Avengers but I thought it was just as good as most of the other Marvel films. Doom was a bit weird but I just look at it as a different take on the character.

Just read that it made $2.7 million Thursday night, less than 1/2 of Ant-Man's $6.4 million. Weekend estimates have now been reduced to $40 million.
If we can take the Thursday comparison with Ant Man and calculate it out, F4 will be lucky if it makes that $40 million.
Also, same budget at about $130 million, but F4 has no 3D boost and no China for the international. Will be interesting to see the numbers over the weekend and the next couple weeks.

Marvel will need a big franchise to help carry forward at this point and I think they can make a good FF movie that will respect the source material and still be presentable to the general public. I hope this happens. Additionally, if Marvel were to re-gain the rights, the FF franchise needs to be given a long-earned rest to help rebuild some goodwill whenever a relaunch is done.
I agree that the FF should be saved for post Infinity War and Doom considered as a new focal villain to replace Thanos. Mind you I have been thinking about if they could consider introducing a pre powered Reed Richards there, or even set up the Future Foundation as an existing organisation.

DAMN !!!!!!, usually the audience is more favorable to movies than snobbish critics, but this was universally reviled.

I think this movie will end up in the upper $20M with only a slight chance of breaking $30M and will come either a close second or barely edge out Mission Impossible for the first spot (my money is on Mission Impossible for the win, though).

I still have no idea what makes the industry specialist think the movie will pull in $40K... and with no 3D boost on top of everything... Anyone know how these projections are made?

Apparently, the reshoots that supposedly cost the studio enough movie to have them cancel the 3D conversion are easily noticeable thanks to a horrible blond wig the filmmakers gave Kate Mara since she had cut her hair after the initial shoot. The fact that they couldn't even bother to give her a wig that matched her hair (or at least not look like a wig) shows just how little they cared for the final product.

wow. that's worse than the one Jessica Alba wore in the second movie since she didn't want to have her hair colored again

If Josh Trank really wants to prove this is not his fault then he should "leak" his original script. What he originally had planned might not be very faithful to the source material but maybe it would have been a better movie. Maybe.

Actually, if Fox wants to recoup some money maybe they should consider releasing a "Director's Cut" DVD and let Trank piece together his version of the film. I think a lot of people might be more interested in getting that DVD than the film that was released.

Sounds like a poor reasoning to try and distance himself from a horrible film made under his watch.

I thought it was suppose to? I know I saw ads around here saying 3d boost but that was early July.

I think it's a case of Let me judge for myself versus critics and folks who didn't care about the Fantastic Four until they saw someone they didn't care for.

It would be interesting to see what time folks went was it in the morning or at night.

I saw it early in the morning (where tickets were $3.45) but I had a free ticket.

I think it comes down to WHO is really going-I saw nothing but parents and kids.

The only person complaining was the comic book fan that I had to tell the film was over as the credits was rolling. And there was no post credit scene. He knew of Ultimate Fantastic Four.

The non-comic book fan and families are going. $40 million? No-I think $25-27 at most and next week won't get better with Straight Out of Compton.

DVD sales will have to foot the bill in getting that budget back.

Which would be smart to do and if it comes out around November when Jordan's Creed comes out-that might help sales.

Won't help. His name is already on it.

It was supposed to, but Fox backtracked and said they were no longer doing 3D conversion. Supposedly, they ran out of money to do 3D because of all the last minute reshoots.

Instead, commercials now tout that the film can be seen in "Premium Large Format" screens where available. The funny thing is that is a feature of the theater showing it, not the film itself. I believe any movie can be shown on a Premium Large Format screen if the theater chooses so. It's not the same as a movie filmed in IMAX.
