Who would be examples of public domain super heroes?
Amazing Man, aka John Aman, is public domain, though there are non-PD versions in the Marvel Universe (Prince of Orphans) and the old Malibu-verse (A-Man).
The original Daredevil, whose been used by Image for a few things in recent years, in PD in his pure form.
Jenny Everywhere is open source, which isn't the same thing, but's close enough.
Many more are listed here, though particular versions may not be PD.
