Edit: Watched it again. Quite a few animals were killed for this movie, and there's a particularly gruesome scene were a cow is machine gunned. There's a sad irony in killing innocent animals for a movie that's condemning war and man's capacity for evil.
That is enough to turn me off of watching a film. I encounter this in Asian films from time to time; years ago I purchased a DVD boxset of Malaysian films, and the first film opened with the killing of a caged rat by means of boiling water, while the last film started with the decapitation of several frogs. The frogs were used for consumption, but for me personally, watching them get killed on camera was too much for me to stomach and I had to turn off the film. If I recall correctly, I threw the entire boxset in the garbage bin out of sheer disgust. In hindsight, this was an overreaction, and I should have given it away to someone who would have appreciated it.

I likewise worry about the fate of the horses in a movie like 'The Good, the Bad, and the Weird' from South Korea. The falls they had to make looked painful and not at all staged/controlled/CGI-assisted. I nonetheless enjoyed the movie.

Yeah, it always sours the movie for me. A creator's artistic vision isn't justification to torture and kill animals(imo).

No. I had seen both of them on opening day. However, my niece and nephew had not seen them.

Ditto. Brilliantly acted and thoughtful, before that Guardians of the Galaxy. Great fun but also had it's sad moments.

Shin Godzilla. Better than the American Godzilla from 2015.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

The Planet of the Apes trilogy is hands down in my top 3 Trilogies of the last ten years. There's so much character detail, story progression, love and loss, tragedy and hope, revenge and forgiveness, death and life. It's crazy.
War for the Planet of the Apes gets a 5 out of 5 from me.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes gets a 5 out of 5 from me.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes gets a 4.5 out of 5 from me.
    Great great series.
Michael Bay take notes, THIS is how you do CGI characters of their own franchise, make THEM the focus, not the humans.
