Default Batgirl Yvonne Craig Has Passed Away

According to her official website, actress Yvonne Craig has passed away.

She was better known for her role as Batgirl in the third season of the classic Batman '66 TV series, becoming an icon for the rise of female heroes. I owe a lot to her for making me a Batgirl fan and she will be sorely missed.

Sad she died a year before Batgirl's 50th birthday ;-(

Very sad news. She's the reason Batgirl/Babs is a pop culture icon. It all started with Yvonne. Was she the first female superhero on tv?

Shocking. I did not know she was seriously ill. It seems like it wasn't very long ago that she was appearing at events with Adam West and Burt Ward.

Between Yvonne Craig's passing, and the death of the Route 29 Batman, it's been a tough week for the extended Bat-Family on Earth-Reality.

They'll have to Other-Darrin her now in that proposed animated Bat-Man film project for next year with West and Ward. Let's hope Ms. Newmar would be in there too.

Ms. Craig's Batgirl suit certainly looked much higher in quality of make than even the Dynamic Duo's at times. She will be missed.

Rest In Peace Yvonne Craig! There's a reason they call Barbara Gordon "The Iconic Batgirl". Because of this beautiful lady! So sad she passed away before Batgirl's 50th anniversary next year. It won't be the same without her!!

Of my generation (I was born a year before Batman originally aired), she was the only actress who had played a live-action superheroine. To say she left an impression on us is an understatement. Obviously, Yvonne Craig had a big part in my appreciation of Babs/Batgirl.

Having said that, I think her appearance on Star Trek was my favorite (at least by the time I hit puberty ).

Terribly sad. Her version of Batgirl was the first instance of a superheroine I ever came across while watching a syndicated rerun of the '66. Was really impressed to see her character holding her own against Batman and Robin in every possible way, that too in her own unique style. A ground breaking character and portrayal that does not receive half the kudos it deserves. The fact that Barbara made her debut alongside Yvonne's introduction on the show really links Yvonne to the character like very few actors and characters.

You will live forever, Dark Knight Damsel.
