    Default CYCLOPS #2 - A review. (Spoilers)

    CYCLOPS #2

So, to start with, I will say that #1's brilliance was not a fluke. This is even better than the start. The plot is interesting. Things are happening to Corsair, secret things. He is equally as big a character as Cyclops in this story, which is a great idea, as he is fascinating. And not a skrull, or a hologram, or a time traveller. This is the real Corsair.

The plot : Interesting, exciting, I am already sold. I want to know what's going on with Corsair, I want to know about these new aliens, I want to know about the Starjammers. I Want to know everything. I also want to see mass Shi'ar Death. A

The art: Absolutely beautiful. I have never experienced Dauterman before, but he is an absolute genius with design. Never lose him Marvel. Him and Rucka are a dreamteam. A+

Characters: Cyclops is wonderful in this. He is a smart, dorky teenager, who thinks pirates are cool. BEcause pirates are cool. Corsair though, he's the breakout star in this. He is as dashing, charming and hilarious as they come. Utterly wonderful. With enough pathos to stop him coming off as a douche. A+

Hepzibah:. No Hepzibah in this issue, but they talk about her, so that will tide us over for now. Cr'Iss! B+

    Grade: A

This book is the best of the week, and probably the most exciting thing Marvel are making. Buy it. If you're not buying it, why are you here? Go away. Go and read Captain America. And if you're not convinced, here's a touch of Rucka's eloquence.

Completely agree with the OP. An even better follow-up to a fantastic first issue. The highlights for me were the on point interactions between Cyke & Corsair and Cyke's amazement and confusion of everything he sees on the planet Yrzt. Just brilliant.

Default Cyclops #2: Spoilers and Review

*EDIT* Crap, I didn't see the previous review for this one. My bad. Moderators can delete or merge thread please.

    Spoilers:

    - Scott and Corsair are getting some good father/son time together. Corsair takes Scott to exotic locations and shows him the customs.

    - They make their way to Yrzt ("ear-zeet") which Corsair describes as a "Vegas" of the galaxy. (Great job on the book showing more different aliens and customs)

    - Here, they meet 'Baroque' a friend of Corsair's. Nice Han Solo/Lando Calrissian reference on their relationship. Baroque/Corsair need to discuss private matters so a younger female named Vass is going to show Scott "The Senex"

    - Scott enjoys a milkshake until the waitress shapeshifts into a skrull and starts attacking. Vass is nonchalant and Scott blasts the Skrull. Turns out The Senex is a simulator far more sophisticated than any Danger Room Session since Scott commented on the milkshake tasting so good.

    - More talking with Corsair and Scott. Scott wanted to know what the shady business with Corsair/Baroque was about. Corsair avoids the subject. Conversation gets interrupted by a bunch of bounty hunters.

    - Hilarious scene with Corsair asking how much the reward for his bounty is. Scott is not impressed considering the circumstances.

    - Scott loses his sword quickly and Corsair is wounded leaving Scott to fight off three bounty hunters. He stands up for himself, fires an Optic Blast that ricochets in to three directions and knocks out all three Bounty Hunters with precision. Awesome scene

    - Corsair is in bad shape. They get back to the ship. He tells Scott (he knows something is wrong) to fly them out. Corsair opens the package he received from Baroque. Turns out its his medicine and all the vials have broke. To make matters worse, one of the bounty hunters planted a tracker on them and they got a lock.

Another Fantastic Issue. I'm impressed with the characterization Rucka brings here. Young Scott is perfect (He reads like a 16 yr old). He's soft spoken, polite and has confidence issues to work on, but he does the does the right thing and stands up and fights back when he needs to. It's also the smaller things added that make a big difference. References to Adult Scott, a good atmosphere written for these new worlds, a serious plot developing but at the same time some hilarious moments. Scott telling Corsair that he was embarrassing him during the Bounty Hunter confrontation literally had me laughing. My only teensy complaint was that the colors wasn't as vibrant as the first issue.

Overall: A must buy. I wasn't expecting what was going to come out of a book featuring a time displaced young Scott Summers but I think the last time I was this impressed with a new series was Thor's.

Wow! this series is just great, looking at the art and the varied aliens reminded me of Samurai Jack.

I'm pretty much usually just a lurker on these threads but I just had to come here and say that this book is definitely one of the best things Marvel's putting out right now. Loved Scott in this, and I'm glad that this month's issue is as good as (better than?) last month's!

I'm really liking this series. This issue was especially good. I can't wait for Scott to find out about Vulcan, I'm sure he will be mentioned since he's the reason for Corsair's current health issues and also the very important thread about Xavier's responsibility relating to Vulcan. So far the several weeks Scott spent with Xavier weren't long enough for him to learn to hate his guts and in his eyes it's still Saint Xavier so I'll be glad to see the memory of the man be cut down a few pegs. Back to the issue at hand, the art is amazing, Scott does look like a teenager and the various aliens look unique and interesting. I like the fact that Scott seems to be curious about what was purchased by his dad and his health. Though Corsair seems to want to keep not only his death but I'm guess his murderer's identity from Scott. Going by Rucka's X-Position next issue some of the cards will be put on the table.

Issue 2 delivered. I hope it sells well because if the writing and art remains. I can see myself reading this for a long time.
Interesting Fact: Cyclops runs the X-Office.

Well, this was a revoltingly cute issue. Still can't believe perfect strangers accidentally stumbled upon Scott's idea of a perfect date.

Great writing [character moments and lots of action]. Great art [Dauterman's ability to draw epic hair!!!]. Another great issue.

This book is giving me The Feels, both good and bad. It's heartwarming to read a happy X-book again, but that's intermingled with a genuinely fear for Corsair... and for the effect his death would have on Tyke.

Another great issue. This Rucka fella gots a great future in the comic business if he ever wants to maybe branch out. Joking aside this is one of those books that has absolutely nothing wrong with it. I love the art but I feel the need to praise the coloring. Not only is this book incredibly beautiful but the colors somehow separate this from the rest. It's unique to this series and adds so much to the action and story. Sotomayor has taken an already great book and made it that much more special.
