Default A question about an old Superman comic

    Hi all.

I popped over here in the hopes you guys and girls will be able to help me track down a comic book I read and would love to find again.

Over 30 years ago I picked up what can only be called a trade of an incredible Superman story that had two supermen. One was red and one was the traditional color. Lex Luthor and Lois Lane was in it and all I can remember is that Luthor killed the red superman after Lois pleaded with him not to.

I have no clue what it was called but I remember as a child really loving it. Any idea what its sub heading was called? Id love to find it.

    Cheers

This sounds like one of the pre-Crisis Superman Red/Superman Blue stories. See if this rings a bell: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superm.../Superman_Blue
"They can be a great people Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you. My only son." - Jor-El

There weren't that many trade paperbacks thirty years ago--so it should be easy to track down, unless it was a foreign edition which could prove more difficult.

Or was it a digest? Digests were half-size but had as many pages as a trade paperback.

"The Amazing Story of Superman-Red and Superman-Blue" was reprinted both in a digest--THE BEST OF DC [Blue Ribbon Digest] No. 19 (December '81)--and in a trade paperback--THE GREATEST SUPERMAN STORIES EVER TOLD (1989), as well as the hardcover of that book that came out in 1988. However, you say it wasn't that story--and from what you describe the plot doesn't sound exactly like it to me.

Anything else you can remember about the book? Any little clues could help us narrow it down.

That looks like the cover. All I remmeber was Superman in blue attacking Luthor in his base and at one point Luther points a gun at Red Superman who is injured and Lois begs him not to kill him. He does. I dont remember the ending but 1981 would be the right year. I was 6 then and I think that was the age I was when I got it.

    Incidentally I loved it.
