    Those are DC's best concepts
I don't think they are, or at least, they aren't to me. They are DC's most enduring concepts, but they tend to be middle-of-the-road books, for the most part. Every now and then you might get something like Brubaker's Catwoman, but the bulk of Catwoman issues throughout the years are mostly cookie-cutter comics. I'd rather see something different that takes chances. When you look at books that change the medium or at least bring something new to it, they don't tend to sell well at the time, but they become favorites over time, generally long after they've been cancelled. The average issues of average books tend to be forgotten, even if they sold spectacularly as monthly issues.

It is telling, DC has ZERO characters and concepts created after the 60s that can currently carry a book past #50.
As to what is in store for the 12 issues and how DC wants to "celebrate" them, maybe a banner across the top saying -
    - "In the past 50 years, we haven't created a single new character or concept that can now go past #50! " - and as acknowledgment use the old 60s vintage checkerboard cover-dress across the top of all 12 listed.

Are we still only talking about the New52? Because it keeps sounding like it's being suggested that DC is unable to sustain any properties past 50 issues since the '60's -- as if every new title during the '70's, '80's, and '90's couldn't last until #50 -- which simply isn't true.

    You know...
They could just bring them all back for one month and number them all #50.

The only thing I can say is that I seriously hope that we get a new creative team for Green Arrow before this happens.

That would actually be pretty cool. Pick up things as if the stories had continued on, just unchronicled -- I'd def check out most of them.

Actually, we don't know that they can or can't. Only that they currently aren't.

If we're going to do a shout-out to old series, then yeah, I'd say #52 would be the place to do it.

Personally, I don't think that DC is unable to sustain any properties past 50 issues, but the way the market is today, I question if enough buyers are willing to give books that don't have the bigger guns in them enough of a chance.

Besides, we're living in an age where the Marvel-mentality seems to dominate: renumber a series when it starts reaching double-digit issue numbers at every chance you get. People who weren't following DC prior to September 2011 may not realize a major comic book company can do things differently than Marvel.

Well, DC hasn't done much of that. Teen Titans was renumbered under the same title. Suicide Squad was renumbered as "New Suicide Squad". There was a significant amount of time between the two Deathstroke series..

I wasn't saying DC had been doing that: I was saying Marvel tends to do that early-and-often.

DC has sometimes done things like that, but not with the frequency Marvel has.
(And don't forget Red Hood & the Outlaws > Red Hood and Arsenal with Starfire getting her own separate title.)

    I was responding to this:

"People who weren't following DC prior to September 2011 may not realize a major comic book company can do things differently than Marvel."

I'd say even people who are only following DC since September 2011 would also see a difference.
