Great story. I have this one on display in my shelf just like a tropy.
I love the Master Planner arc. It's a truly iconic story, and I think it is a great representation of who Spidey truly is.
“Marvel Fan Rave Podcast” on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and more.
Easily still one of the best Spider-Man stories.
Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four and Stan Lee and Steve Dikto were doing wonders in the comics they were making at that time.
Epic storyline, definitely one that helped to really solidify what Spider-Man was about. One thing that often goes unnoticed about this story is that the villain gets away. Sure, Doc Ock's plan is stopped, but he isn't taken into custody. Nor did we ever see him breaking out of jail before. Considering that this when at the time when the Comics Code was at its peak and all villains had to be shown getting their full comeuppance, this was a bit revolutionary. It also was the gradually beginning of "free roam villains."
I thought the CCA had put the kibosh on monster stuff by then.
"I should describe my known nature as tripartite, my interests consisting of three parallel and disassociated groups; a) love of the strange and the fantastic, b) love of abstract truth and scientific logic, c) love of the ancient and the permanent. Sundry combinations of these strains will probably account for my...odd tastes, and eccentricities."
Everybody's statements are spot on!
One could easily make the argument that this is the crown jewel in the Lee/Ditko ASM run (apart from the origin issue); I read it again about a year ago and it holds up remarkably well. Outstanding!
Pull list, heh. As in, whatever the local variety store decided to order that week.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.
One of the greatest Spidey stories ever told, 'nough said.
"So you've come to the end now alive but dead inside."
Sure. Although the CBR readers list bears it out.
