Why is SS such a hard sell? Too powerful? Boring stories? Terrible art?

Can we all agree that somewhere around Englehart/Starlin/Marz with Ron Lim was probably Surfer's zenith. What was it about that time that worked?

Personally, I like a non-Earth story, with Zenn-La and Shallaball alive and in the background. I like Surfer exploring space, occasionally pissing off the Kree, Skrulls and other Marvel aliens. I want Surfer involved with stories that include the Living Tribunal, Eternity, Elders of Universe and of course Galactus/the Heralds.

Surely there is enough "out there" to make great stories.

    Am I high?

Ron Lim is the absolute best Silver Surfer artist. No one else can do the Surfer better. Mike Allred is not the right artist for the current series. The old series was ruined when Zenn-La and Shalla Bal were shown to be dead for decades. Now they are alive again but distorted into villains, which also sucks.

Silver Surfer #6 only sold 18.991 copies, which puts they series below the 20,000 level that Marvel cancels titles at.
Think they'll end up having Norrin and Dawn go back to Anchor Bay for a while? They could then bring them back as supporting characters when Fantastic Four eventually comes back. Or maybe Norrin could get involved in either Nova or Guardians of the Galaxy.

OK, that issue of Silver Surfer had an extra dollar on the cover price. That may well explain the 2000 lost readers. So everything on this list, if not cancelled already, should be cancelled shortly? I think you forgot to take digital and trades into account, as I know those factors keep Squirrel Girl going.

I dont think the extra $ helped, but equally, I think people are just getting turned off by the Doctor Who fan fiction.

I know that's why I dropped the book any way. I kept hoping it would pick up or change, but no, it continues being more of a book about Dawn Greenwood than the Silver Surfer.

As for the art, I actually have to admit that's the only reason I kept it up so long. Allred's can do no wrong and their art does fit the tone of the Doctor Who stuff Slott is doing.

Silver Surfer doesn't cross over into Civil War 2, but he does appear within the storyline. The Surfer and Dawn attended the Hulk's funeral. He appeared in Civil War: The Fallen and Uncanny Avengers #14. Norrin and the Hulk were friends and fellow Defenders, so I am glad that he made it to the funeral.

Pages were then shown from “Silver Surfer” #7, which sees the Silver Surfer go to a dimension solely for gambling. Slott said in “Silver Surfer” #8 we’ll find out there’s a “fourth member of the team you’ve never noticed,” because he’s too tiny to see. The character’s name is “Tiny Harold.” That’ll be explored in a storyline called, “Tall Tales of Tiny Harold.”

I am glad that Norrin and Dawn took off into space and didn't take sides in Civil War 2. They can be proud to have avoided that embarrassment.

Maybe but then how popular can he become if he continues to avoid having much interaction with other superheroes both in his book and in high profile events/crossovers like Secret Wars and the Civil Wars?

Well, the first Civil War was about a new US law - since he's an alien, he isn't bound by them. As for his Last Days issue in Secret Wars, he and Dawn tried to recreate the universe, but Reed Richards was doing the same thing. He was pretty much caught unaware, having escaped the final incursion.

Silver Surfer appears on the cover of Ultimates #4. I was hoping he would show up in that series.

Luckily comics are more than just posters...and yet I would still take a poster of the former.

Why did Ultimates2 get his Corner Box Variant instead of his own book?

To remind/make aware old/new readers of marvel comics about Galactus' very first herald introduced to them in Fantastic Four # 48 in 1966?
