Team would have a "family" feel with Storm as the "den" mother. Rogue as the big sister to Kurt and Bobby and Rachel, Kitty, and Illyana as sister/best friends.

For just a touch of romance you rekindle the Iceman/Shadowcat romance and don't let a writer blow it up because he wanted all of the characters he wrote under his tent.

Perfect teams are perfect. I would read all of these.

Here's what I came up with

Storm- Fearless leader, matriarch, and all around bad ass.
Forge- Tech inclined, brainy level headed
M- Telepath/brawler who brings the sass
Nightcrawler- teleportation, humor and charm. Both swash and buckle
Chamber- Powerhouse and general grump (every team needs one of those)
Shadowcat- Level headed, brilliant and those phasing powers come in handy!
Northstar- Super speed, flight and plenty of snark. I'd enjoy how he and M could interact
