The dream is dead, so wake up and fight!
For me it is all about the power:
Superman
Wonder Woman
Martian Manhunter
Aquaman
Captain Atom (pre Nu52 version)
Flash
Batman
Cyborg
Green Lantern (Hal or John)
Hawkman
Firehawk (in place of Firestorm)
Doctor Light (Kimiyo)

OK, decided to go in a different direction:
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
The Flash
Green Lantern (John Stewart)
Aquaman
Black Canary
Cyborg
Hawkgirl
Mister Terrific
Vixen
Zatanna
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
The Flash
Green Lantern
Aquaman
Cyborg
Black Canary
Hawkgirl
Captain Marvel
That team came pretty close...
although if I could change a few, Edited some with apologies to Ross & Meltzer.
If I could. I'd add Zatanna.
And it still works with the 12 Olympian Pantheon, added some Roman equivalent names for emphasis.
Zeus = Superman
Hera = Wonder Woman
Poseidon (Neptune) = Aquaman
Hermes (Mercury) = Flash
Apollo = Green Lantern
Demeter Ceres) = Hawkgirl
Ares (Mars) = J'onn J'onzz
Artemis = Vixen
Hephaestus (Vulcan) = Black Lightning
Aphrodite = Black Canary
Eros (Cupid) = Green Arrow
Athena - Zatanna
13-Hades = Batman

I think if you want to reconstruct a Morrison style team you have to look at what MADE the Morrison team work, besides the incredible imagination and skill of Grant Morrison and Howard Porter.
The team consisted of a recognizable, static core (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman). These were characters that had their own popular solo series, had high visibility, and generally couldn't be messed with too much. You got to have big 'moments' with all of them, but you didn't get to grow them, you didn't get to change them in any lasting or sincere way, and you didn't get to go too far into character. Which is fine for a big, sprawling, plot-driven book like JLA, in my opinion.
Then you had a lesser cast of characters, somewhat shifting, who were a bit more malleable, but who you probably couldn't 'break' or take any too big risks with. Generally the job there was to SHOW what made them cool, to revitalize or make them popular, to add some diversity. (Martian Manhunter, Steel, Huntress, Barda, Orion, Oracle, Plastic Man, Green Arrow).
And then you had a few characters that you created yourself, that you might kill, or change, and that generally allowed you to inject some new concepts into the series (Aztek, Zauriel, Tomorrow Woman).
So, with that in mind...
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern (Simon Baz)
Flash (Barry Allen)
The Atom (Ray Palmer)
Jason Blood (The Demon, if you like him nasty)
Tomorrow Woman (newly created)
Vixen (with an expansion and exploration of her powers)
Element Woman (my portrayal of her is derived primarily from Delirium, of the Endless)
Starfire
Psi-ntist, mysterious member with a shadowy past!
1) superman
2) batman
3) wonder woman
4) green lantern (John Stewart)
5) flash (wally west)
6) aquaman
7) dr fate
8) blue beetle
9) booster gold
10) plastic man
11) hawkgirl
12) black canary
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, GL (Gardner or Jordan), Aquaman, Flash (Allen or West), Lex Luthor (he's actually a really interesting addition in the current series), Martian Manhunter, Cyborg, Shazam, Vixen (I like Zatanna more, but I think the JLD need her) Mera.
Yes, added to the horror of fandom everywhere - that spot could have been used for someone better!
To be killed as soon as (he/she) becomes interesting, and to give the others something "real", to angst over.
And if you don't, the next creative team will! LOL!
Psi-ntist, your time was brief, yet you burned ever so bright!

I didn't realize we were supposed to build the team around the pantheon. My bad.
