Default PREVIEW: 100th Anniversary Special - Fantastic Four #1

This July, do the time warp and fast forward to the year 2061 as Marvel celebrates the upcoming 100th Anniversary of some of its greatest characters in this new head-spinning limited series! Today, Marvel Comics is proud to present your first look at the 100th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL - FANTASTIC FOUR #1, from fan favorite creators Jen Van Meter & Joanna Estep.

Witness the first family of the future in a way you've never seen them before! What does the Fantastic Four look like in the year 2061? Reed Richards, Doctor Doom and Johnny Storm are all gone - presumed dead. The Fantastic Four has been discredited in the eyes of the public - no longer the champions they once were. Now, a new Fantastic Four will rise up - comprised of Doom's granddaughter and the Richards-Banner twins. But when a key player in the first family's past resurfaces - it will have earth-shattering effects on their future!

Never heard of these fan favorites and the art is kind of meh IMO. I hope the story is good and I like the idea of a next generation group. DeFalco did something similar with his Fantastic Five series back in the 1990s and IIRC it was part of the Spider-Girl alternate timeline.

The art and coloring make it look like a happy book. There is very little happiness in comics lately.

Jen did Black Lightning: Year One and a Black Cat mini.
    Not sure about Joanna though.

I assume Ben resurfaces given he is borderline immortal. Unless it is Sue tied into the other stories where she is the last one standing.

Not quite what I expected. I was hoping for something like the story in a recent Daredevil issue, where Matt had retired and Foggy was still around, and there were references to the current ongoing storyline.

My first guess on Ben surviving. As for Sue… no word on how she is here. I just wonder which Richards and which Banner had those twins, and the child of Doom who sired his granddaughter.

Probably just transported to the future, like FF 2099.

Looks cool, I definitely trust Van Meter to do a good story.

Was it ever established how FF 2099 ended up in that Negative Zone prison in 2099?

A little more background for the issue via newsarama interview with the creative team. Definitely going to get it due to how fun it seems it'll be.

That interview is great! Cool how much thought she put into the events that transpired between now and 2061 - even including editorial mandates. That's hilarious.
