I went out tonight for the first time, not as Liam, for dinner and coffee. It was terrifying and honestly I’m not looking forward to similar future experiences. Still, glad that I did it.

Regarding BW. Like most people, I agree with her sometimes and disagree other times.

Yeah sometimes it takes a while to find the right community. Usually people think clubs are the only place to go but as you gain confidence you find new ways to meet people and it gets easier

Thankfully, Glasgow seems to be a pretty good place to be LGBT

How is everyone doing? I feel like this thread has died down. So Bump.
I was trying to do too much and not doing any of it as well as I could. But I've had a change of mind... though not everyone shall enjoy it. I will.

Yeah really good! I’ve got a holiday just around the corner so I’m super excited. Plus I finally watched Sabrina. Oh my gosh it’s so good and sabrina’s cousin Ambrose is one of the best characters on tv ever

Never heard of Adam and Andy but I’ll have to check it out! There’s one on Facebook I love but I’ve forgotten the name of it right now. I’ll have to find it and post it

These will probably change almost as soon as I hit reply, but ...

Favourite LGBT film? The Way He Looks, I also really like Moonlight, but I've been in a mood recently where I prefer mostly fun, upbeat LGBT stories.

Favourite LGBT fictional character? James Sveck from Someday This Pain Will be Useful to You by Peter Cameron, because he's like a self portrait of myself at that age, personality wise.

Favourite LGBT couple? Hmm, probably Rictor and Shatterstar, because it feels the most real to me.

Favourite LGBT real life person? Ellen Page or Laverne Cox.

Book? Boy Meets Boy, by David Levithan

So I just saw a trailer for the movie Boy Erased and it got me to thinking about LGBT media, and how I'm kind of tired of movies and shows that seem to be made more for the education of ignorant straight people than for the entertainment of queer people. Like, I understand that marginalization, discrimination, and violence are a large part of the existence of queer people and that shouldn't be ignored, but that also shouldn't be all that we see in our stories.

Yeah, but stories about sad gays make more money and win awards

I don’t know. Centuries of persecution coupled with queer people being prone to mental illness. It’s not surprising that most LGBT art(historical and contemporary) deals with themes of isolation, loneliness, repression, depression, suicide, addiction, and discrimination. Not the best subjects for upbeat films.

Personally I enjoy misery porn but I agree there should be more variety.
