I have actively avoided this thread once I saw all the Star Wars discussion since I hadn't seen the move yet. I have now seen it, so I guess it is safe to come back haha
As far as the Finn/Po shipping... I don't see it. I would hugely applaud Disney if it turned out to be true & it made sense. But personally, I just don't see it.
I've not yet seen it! Some people have seen in three times and I haven't seen it once. But good to see all the positive reviews, so hopefully won't disappoint. Should be seeing it after Christmas. Quite a few interesting things coming out soon, like Joy with Jennifer Lawrence in a week or two.
Watched Carol today. It's a well-made film with beautiful cinematography, a fantastic 16mm look that screams 1950s (and seems to link back to Therese's love of photography) and a wonderful soundtrack, and some great leads as portrayed by Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, but it seems to lack something that would place it in my favourite films: the transcendent, poetic films that make me feel tingly inside.
There's a nice portrayal of other peoples' reactions to their relationship which isn't overtly homophobic; it's a nice redressing of the balance where although there was institutional homophobia, there's always going to be people who don't give a poop, or thinks it's their business but not their own etc. rather than a more melodramatic response. You know, there are individuals and friends as well as just the mass response.
Is the original novel The Price of Salt worth checking out?

Sort of. Porny lesbian is fine. Waxed and oiled and vaguely submissive while on display. It sells fine, especially to the geek fanboy market. But, if you, say, played it as Leia and Han, they'd hate the Han. She'd be a frigid bitch. She wouldn't be sexy enough. Loads of other complaints.
Patsy Walker on TV! Patsy Walker in new comics! Patsy Walker in your brain! And Jessica Jones is the new Nancy! (Oh, and read the Comics Cube.)
She really is. I really like that the show still acknowledges that she likes men as well, despite Callie dating only women for the last few years.
I just realized it's been like 8 years since she first slept with Erika Hahn. This show has been on for a while.
It works even better in conjunction with the theory that spoilers:end of spoilers
Kylo Ren betrayed Skywalker and became Sith so that he could infiltrate the Sith and destroy them, finishing what his grandfather started. Which means he has to be evil and kill a family member to get in close so he can destroy them. Hence his struggle with the Light- he's trying to be evil against his own nature. Which could lead to a heel-turn and a romance with Rey!
Merry Christmas my LGBT lovelies and you wonderful allies.

"We are Shakespeare. We are Michelangelo. We are Tchaikovsky. We are Turing. We are Mercury. We are Wilde. We are Lincoln, Lorca, Leonardo da Vinci. We are Alexander the Great. We are Fredrick the Great. We are Rustin. We are Addams. We are Marsha! Marsha Marsha Marsha! We so generous, we DeGeneres. We are Ziggy Stardust hooked to the silver screen. Controversially we are Malcolm X. We are Plato. We are Aristotle. We are RuPaul, god dammit! And yes, we are Woolf."
It's pretty revolutionary-- sad as it is that this seemingly minor act has to be considered revolutionary-- that Callie identifies as bisexual. It's so rare that TV characters even say the word, much less use it as their sexual identity, and have it treated as valid by other characters.
Thanks, Kieran! To you as well! Hope you've donned some gay apparel.

I remember how Amanda Donohoe's character on LA Law simply said that she was "flexible." I suppose that was the accepted euphemism for NBC at the time.
Today i came out as gay to my parents after a small panic attack.
They didn't believe it because i'm more a virgin than Mary.
They told me to wait because i couldn't be sure since i never done anything with guys or girls.
I said 'ok' and told them i was tired and needed to sleep.
But i am neither. I am on my bed posting this and crying because this hurt me more than i will ever show them.
I should have waited for college as was my plan. But i had a panic attack because of it and didn't want them to be worried with me or be hurt because i woldn't tell them the reason for my anxiety(?).
I want to go away to college fast.
Good for you! It's always better to get it out, even if you feel worse right now. Your parents probably don't mean harm with their ignorance, they're just ignorant.
Agreeing with them was probably a bad idea, though, as now you'll really have to insist that you know your sexuality better than they do. My father once jokingly suggested that I don't know if I'm fully gay because I've never boned a woman. I responded "did you have to suck a dick to know you were straight?" That was pretty effective. That logic only works if everyone tries everything once before deciding, after all.
Good luck with the coming out process!

You're brave and should be proud of this brave thing you did today. Everyone here is proud of you, and you should know that you can message me-- and I'm sure there are others on this thread who would feel fine with making the same offer-- about anything you need or want to talk or rant.
I wasn't able to come out in high school and I wish I had. My life has been so much better in college, where I'm growing more freely. Hold on.
We're proud of you. Post in this thread as often as you want.
Explore online chat and phone resources if you need, from official organizations like this one, too: http://www.glbthotline.org/
I used them a lot when I was getting ready to come out.

Lucena Soares, I hope you can get some rest and they can do some thinking, and maybe they'll be more receptive after. I don't know them, so that could be a tall order. But, regardless, what you did was brave and a very good thing.
I wish you all the luck.
