I would 100% recommend (from Marvel) Young Avengers vol. 2 by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. It is THE BEST LGBT+ series I've ever read from Marvel. It won the GLAAD media award for "Best Comic", featured a near exclusively LGBT+ cast and had the protagonist an openly proud gay man, who's love is central to the comic. It's brilliant, it's magnificent and it's gorgeously drawn.

    Enjoy.

YEY!!! Germany becomes the 23rd country in the world to legalise gay marriage (FUN FACT: there are 196 countries in the world)

Germany finally votes to legalise same-sex marriage
    http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/06/30...-sex-marriage/

German MPs this morning voted by a clear majority to legalise same-sex marriage. After years of campaigning, things moved swiftly this week with a vote being announced, carried out and successfully passed in a matter of days. Chancellor Angela Merkel gave her Christian Democratic Union party a free vote in the proposal put forward by the Social Democrats – though Mrs Merkel herself voted against the legislation. The vote passed this morning in the Bundestag by a clear majority.

393 members of parliament voted in favour of the bill, with 296 voting against and 4 abstentions. Previously, same-sex couples could not get married but instead only enter into civil unions. Same-sex couples will now be able to have all the rights connected to existing marriage laws. This includes joint adoption. Same-sex couples may be able to get married in Germany before the end of 2017, after the law is formally amended to reflect the result of today’s historic vote.

The German legal code will now read: “Marriage is entered into for life by two people of different or the same sex.”

I enjoyed the original series, but Gillen's run (for me) is the best run. It was far more proudly LGBT+, it was so creative visually (as the images above show) and the team was so much better (no Cassie and no Eli, adding MAC, Loki and Prodigy, win, win win). Wiccan I was always a fan of, but it was Gillen's brilliant work that made hm my second favourite character of all time. I actually found Gillen gave Bill & Ted far more depth and nuance than Heinberg (personally). It wasn't so "perfect", it was more real and complex. Plus...

So... who are Colby and Timber and how are they both real and comic characters? Is this a DC thing? And... errr... can you also explain the Kermit, Miss Piggy and Doug Ar-who?

Hi Kieran. Sorry but I completely misunderstood your questions (and probably made myself look like a complete idiot at the same time - nothing new there).

I took LGBT+ to mean two different people e.g. LGBT person & comic character. Duh! (but maybe everyone should answer along those lines - it could make interesting reading).

I love Gillen's run too, but I kinda like Heinberg's better, specially if you count Children's Crusade and the Presents oneshots. I just love that tone/vibe of the now "oldschool" Marvel teen comics like the original YA and Runaways(which I have read recently, and I now wanna point out how Kieran here was totally mean and unfair to Karolina ).

No, those were two separate bills, voted on separately. Debated on the same day, no further connection.

I'm happy for Germany but gee it makes me pissed at australia. It took them a week to decide to have a vote and then it was passed. Australia is really no closer than it has been for at least the last 15 years, maybe longer.

Oh well. It was my birthday yesterday and I went diving with sharks! It was s much fun! Never been diving before but I think I'll do it again!

It's a difficult one, Gillen's comic would not exist without Heinberg's. And in many ways Gillen's is a deconstruction of Heinberg's concept, and again you need the first to have the second. Unforgiven (1992) doesn't work unless all those other Westerns had come before it. So Gillen's comic owes a lot to Heinberg's, and Heinberg was a trailblazer. BUT coming first isn't the be-all-and-end-all. Visually Gillen's is more exciting thanks to McKelvie. Every issue had a "special page" which was choc-a-bloc with creativity. Wiccan's redesign is possibly my favourite costume of all time. MAC's street clothing was a perfect choice, and the more shirtless Noh-var the better. Gillen made Wiccan and Hulkling so much more complex (love Heinberg's groundwork, but it really was too nice, too perfect, and not realistic enough). And what Gillen did so well (which he had previous accomplished with Scott/Emma) is he could have them fight, but not make anyone the "bad guy", you still loved them both and loved them as a couple (where as Bendis, who I do like a lot, ruined Jessica Jones in creating conflict with her and Luke Cage in New Avengers... I mean fans dubbed her "the Shrew" for good reason). And under Heinberg Wiccan was a Mary Sue (basically). I love him, but he was. And I totally get why Heinberg did that, but under Gillen (despite getting a major power-up) Billy wasn't this Mary Sue that everyone loves. He messed up, he suffered for it, and the illusion that he can do no wrong was shattered to everyone. And cast wise Gillen's was flawless, where as Heinberg was bogged down by Cassie Lang (ugh) and a very noble... but still very damaging drug story for Eli (which ruined his character due to the lack of real redemption or consequence... and then in Children's Crusade he just was a f*ck-up). Where as MAC was groundbreakingly EPIC. Prodigy was salvaged by Gillen, giving this new lease of glorious life; and no-one writes KidLoki better than Gillen. My only critique of Gillen's run is it lacked too little Speed, but it was at-least story justified.

P.S. Karolina is dull as dishwater, and you know it!

So happy for Germany, but yes it should be noted that Merkel did this because she has an election coming up. She was the reason it's taken this long in the first place, so while it's awesome to have gay marriage, she still voted against it when it came to it.

And I feel for you about Australia, seeing so many stories about what the politicians say out there... I mean it's shocking. And that tennis star (I forget her name), ugh! I really dislike how she is trying to play the victim, refusing to acknowledge this all started because SHE boycotted an airline that supports gay marriage. And your leader... it's such a shame, and surprising (but then again many Brits were shocked to learn three weeks ago that Northern Ireland didn't have gay marriage so... hey).

Firstly, no need to apologies, don't be silly. It was both harmless and hilarious (similar to me mis-reading someone's comment a few pages ago and thinking they were dating men in jail). Secondly... okay, WHY PUMBAA? It has to be asked. Third... porn stars totally count, we have many a lovely discussion about porn stars in this thread. Personally my "Top 5" would probably be Rafael Alencar, Jack Harrier, Kayden Gray, Sean Xavier and Jeff Palmer (before the crazy). See... isn't it fun to share!

I'm not a DC boy, so I'll have to assume they are awesome characters.

Colour in Germany to DARK BLUE!!!

A reminder of gay marriage in Europe. And it should be noted it is NOT a requirement of membership of the EU to have (or even recognize) gay marriage. For all we're told we need the EU for UK gay right I say: bullsh*t! Utter lying bullsh*t. Why is it our gay rights laws are head-and-shoulders above most of the countries in the EU, if we need them oh so much? The one that (maybe due to lack of knowledge) I'm surprised at is Switzerland. But then again maybe correlating them as nice neutral people in war is erroneous to assume they are liberal in other scenarios?

    UPCOMING [stolen from Wikipedia]:
    • ALDERNAY: On 21 February 2017, the States of Alderney's Policy and Finance Committee backed a proposal to draft a bill to legalise same-sex marriage on the island. On 16 May 2017, the committee voted to send the draft marriage bill to the full States of Alderney for a vote. It is expected it will be a year before such a law comes into effect.
    • JERSEY: On 14 July 2015 the Chief Minister submitted a proposal to parliament. The States were asked to decide whether they agree, in principle, that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. The proposition was approved by the Assembly on 22 September 2015. Legislation to bring the law into effect is expected to be brought forward in the summer and come into force by December 2017.
    • MALTA: After winning an election on 3 June 2017, PM Joseph Muscat committed his government to passing a same-sex marriage law before summer of the same year. On 18 June 2017, Muscat announced that the law would go through both its first and second reading on the first day of the parliamentary session, which would start on the week of June 26th.
