Fortunately, newer HIV medications are less likely to produce drug resistance mutations than older HIV medications.

“Today’s HIV treatments work, really well. Once common, HIV drug resistance has become a quite uncommon thing for patients taking modern medications, even among those with less than perfect adherence,” Benjamin Young, MD, PhD, senior vice president and chief medical officer of the International Association of Providers in AIDS Care (IAPAC), told BETA.

In addition, some of the newer drugs today are particularly resistant to resistance.

“Drug resistance is particularly uncommon among people taking first-line HIV integrase inhibitors. This appears to be especially true for dolutegravir (Tivicay), where only a single case of treatment-emergent resistance has been reported during initial treatment. With today’s treatment options, dealing with drug resistant virus is easier, with potent and well-tolerated second-line options,” said Young.

New York Says End of AIDS Epidemic Is Near

In New York, where the first cases of AIDS were reported in 1981, fewer than 2,500 new cases were reported in 2018, the lowest in many years.

...Experts in the field say that the progress being made in New York — particularly in New York City, long an epicenter of infection — is the result of a number of factors, including the use of PrEP and the ease of antiretroviral drugs, which suppress levels of H.I.V.

“Those two things together have been a revolution,” said Jen Kates, director of global health and H.I.V. policy at the Kaiser Family Foundation in Washington.
New HIV diagnoses and infections continue to fall to record lows in New York City

It's a 64% drop since the city began reporting new HIV diagnoses in 2001, when more than 5,900 people were diagnosed.

    So in summary:

People, especially men who have sex with men, have not become careless about HIV. And virus mutation and drug resistance have not turned out to be major problems because combination therapy by designs reduces the risk of it happening.

Oh, well good for us in the developed world, that's HIV sorted then. You literally did not get my point, as your collection of news articles shows. Viral mutation is a risk, one that we have dealt with well so far, it does not remove the risk. HIV is still a problem and it can become a bigger problem again, even in developed countries. I'm not going to respond if you just ignore what I've said, it will lead to an unnecessarily confrontation with no potential for resolution. Although, I suspect that situation has already occurred.

I did not say that people have become careless about contracting HIV, nor was I talking only about people in risk-groups, please do not twist my words.

    Right.

Just knock the scare mongering off and read some current research, please. Your posts are not helping anyone. As I said before, I have been very active in HIV prevention for 15 years. I know my stuff here. And you are basing your posts on false assumptions, outdated data and fear.

Whilst I respect (and admire) your work in HIV prevention, it does not make you right. More authority (assuming more authority at all) is a weak argument at best. Nonetheless, that is probably a good place to let it go whilst civility remains thankfully intact.

Has anyone been watching the UK Drag Race? Any favourites. The two runways have been great concepts for the queens to get creative with (HRH Elizabeth II and Bond Girls). Was anyone... put off by Scaredy Kat? Not because he had a girlfriend (drag is for all) but because, how to put this, he almost seemed like he was bragging that he had a girlfriend?

Hey. I know we haven't always gelled, but I think it's really wonderful that you are talking about this and this presence will help others talk about it. It's very brave, it's normalizing it. So you're doing a great thing. I follow Kayden Gray (porn star, he's HOT) on Insta and Twitter, and he's HIV+ and talks a lot about debunking the misinformation and shutting down the scaremongering. So worth listening too, for that. Plus he's hot...

It was really interesting to watch (ugh the adverts though, too many). I found the debate over the Q word very interesting, and was pleased to know it's not just UK gay and lesbians that object to it. I also found it FASCINATING not one person on that panel, not one, wanted to "support" LGBTQIA+ as a catch-all (and the moderator didn't even get into LGBTQQIA2+... and now there's a P? I assume polyamorous???).

Sadly there will never be an umbrella term that will work for all, so... the division continues.

Disagree. An informed opinion (as in one that is from knowledge gained from relevant research, life experience and specific, detailed understanding of a situation) carries more weight than "an opinion" that is none of the above. That does NOT always mean the informed person is right everytime, or that the "opinion" is incorrect everytime. But to brush aside an informed opinion as the same authoritative standing as... just an opinion, is wrong. IMO.

I legit love kayden grey. He seems like such a nice guy and he really knows his stuff. As Kieren said he is definitely super hot but he seems like a guy that’s easy to get along with too.

I wonder if he would ever try podcasting?

I would TOTALLY listen to that; and I agree, he seems really chill. Which I like. He's also very honest and open about his sexual experiences (good and bad). The fact he's so hot does help, though

Thanks for sharing, Star_Jammer, and I'm glad that almost everyone here was so supportive, especially PaulBullion. Add my voice to the support.

Kieran_Frost... Scaredy Kat has a friend that's a girl. I really don't want to 'bi now, gay later' but he's really pushing the 'I have a girlfriend' too hard. I think the lady doth protest too much.
My Drag Race UK favourites so far are Baga Chipz and Divina de Campo. They seem nice, entertaining, talented, and I'm enjoying their looks. The Vivienne and Sum Ting Wong are also enjoyable.

I would start watching Ru Paul's Drag Race if Rob Halford were one of the judges.

This was a nice break from the cornball love stories and bleak oscar-bait for heteros that makeup most modern queer films.

In the summer of 1979, gay porn producer Anne sets out to film her most ambitious film yet, but her actors are picked off, one by one, by a mysterious killer.

Something felt off. I have introduced several str8 guys to Drag Race, and they love it. Str8 guys can do drag, it's not just a gay thing (AT ALL), and I want more diversity and representation in our queens. But something about his attitude... yeah.. Can't put my finger on it, but it wasn't endearing.

I am currently routing for the Vivienne. I like that she knows who she is, and owns it. Baga's career is now safe, purely off "Much better." It's the new "opulence".

I loved Blu in the first episode (that coin dress was EV-ERY-THING!), but boy did he fail on the second. Even the runway felt odd. It was more Austin Powers than Bond.

Yup. The coin was everything, closely followed by the stamp. The 007 boob window was a miss.
    Scaredy's penchant for spoilers:
pulling up her dress and showing her panties/diapers

I think Vinegar is next to go.

What's really annoying me about Drag Race UK is how [Ru and] every single American Youtube reviewer I've seen tries to do a 'British' accent but fails miserably, then complains about not getting the references. Google is a thing, luvs, as is talking normally.

Anybody watching Camp Wannakiki or Dragula? They're polar opposites but are fun to watch.

Yeah he doesn’t seem as much of a diva as say, Mickey Taylor is. I remember he and Johannes Lars had a terrible blue on twitter once.

Haven’t watched drag race UK yet but I bet it’s awesome. Apparently they’re working on an Australian one which will definitely be interesting

I enjoyed episode 3. The right queen won and the right queen went home, the runway was good... BUT...
    spoilers:
How is Cheryl not in the bottom??? Three weeks in a row she's bttm3? Are they just keeping her around to meet Cheryl Cole when she's a guest judge? Then again I think Bagga should have been bttm2 for that horrible metal diaper.
    end of spoilers
Am I the only one not impressed by any of the lipsyncs so far?

SO BLOODY EXCITED FOR NEXT EPISODE
    spoilers:
For years! YEARS, I've said a queen should play Maggie Thatcher! She has so many catchphrases, it would be hilarious, and from the looks of it TWO are doing her. Which is my second "wish list". I've always wanted to see two queens do the same person on Snatch Game. We almost had it Season 7 and 8, and AS4, but one always backs out. NO. Commit.

And a Canadian one. Brook Lynn Heights is confirmed as the main judge, with Jeffrey Boyer Hottman as another judge.

Johannes said something on twitter about how he wanted to be invited out more often to group events and then Mickey said he invites him to things all the time and he always says no and then they started raging like “there’s a clique!””there’s no clique” and then it just went on and on.

Oh I didn’t know there was a Canadian one. That would be fun. I wonder if Ryan reynolds would go on it
