It's the same, to me, as him telling Robin in DKR that if she disobeys she's fired but never fires her. Or, Wonder Woman kinda bullying Superman into standing up and getting back in the game. He's trying to push Superman into action. He can't actually be Superman's boss any longer than Superman accepts him as his boss, but Superman has to learn to get there and stop trying to be the little guy. Miller's Superman is too repressed. Which, yeah, isn't the greatest take ever, but it's a good take for a repressed-in-other-ways Batman story. If it was a Superman story, it'd be, I dunno, Superman showing Batman he can stand in the sun and have sex more, probably. Smell the flowers. Be a worker. |
