Default What do you think would be a good story line for Superman?

I've always thought a good story line would be him during a very dark and dangerous time like an invasion from Darkseid where he to fight back Darkseid's forces he creates a race of beings from his own DNA and imprints them with a very specific and frightening ideology. Essentially they go to far and he ends up banishing them to the phantom zone or a distant part of space only to find nothing he does works (like they always find away to escape or cause pain and suffering) and always having to fight them again and again.

The messed up part being that their objective is peace and they take it to horrible extremes like acts of genocide, stripping planets of their cultures, enslavement, and other such things all while praising Superman and heralding him as a god. Each time Superman confronts them he's horrified by how similar they are to him and yet so different. For example he could rant and yell at them screaming "How could I have possibly created such a monstrous race one without pity or compassion!" only to get this response "Did you yourself not imprint us with the belief that compassion and mercy were pointless? Did you not design us to strive for utopia at all costs and stop at nothing to achieve it? Did you not make us the perfect soldiers Father?"

I like the idea of him creating a monstrous race in his darkest moments and being called "Father" by them. It would just be amazing to see him interact with such an enemy and because he's responsible for them being so monstrous he's never free of them.

Why would Superman imprint a race of clones with the idea that compassion and mercy are pointless? That seems to fly directly in the face of who he is. Maybe if it were a bit more nuanced and their fall from grace were a bit more subtle and out of Superman's direct control it would make more sense and pack more emotional punch. The idea of him making beings directly made to be just solders seems a bit odd to, though not as odd as my first point but still quite outside of established character personality.

Is it just me or has this been posted here before?

    It seems eerily familiar.

Well I think if he was in a dark place he might create something akin to that(not exactly clones though because that's been done to death) and then after snapping out of it he'd completely regret it and be all "What have I done!"

Not long after Superman comes to Earth, the government develops a rocket using the star drive from his ship (remember, in the current continuity, the government retrieved Superman's rocket) and built their own but had no understanding of the technology. So the first time they fire up the engine, the rocket disappears from our solar system and is never heard from again. 25 years later, NASA gets a signal from the missing rocket and it's a distress signal. That's when the government comes clean and tells Superman what they did and ask him to get it back. Superman finds the rocket but the two pilots are missing. He has to determine what happened to them. Turns out they've been enslaved on an alien planet for the last 25 years and Superman has to rescue them and get them home. All while escaping the slave traders himself.

    That's an interesting idea.

I had this one idea where Superman sort of creates his own Batman, fails to save a young man's parents and this young man makes it his mission to destroy Superman. I've had to rethink a few things in this post Truth universe.

Superman, early on in his career is battling Doomsday/Brainiac/Whoever, during the battle they crash through a building that collapses, a young man in his teens is the sole survivor. Superman defeats his foe and saves the day but has unknowingly created what could be his greatest foe. Five years later the boy is a man and he has done nothing but tirelessly research and watch Superman. He knows who his friends and allies are, he has a good idea of where the fortress is, but most of all he knows how to hurt Superman. Bodies begin to turn up, the victims share names with Superman's friends, a Jimmy first, then a Lois, then a Olsen and so on. Superman sees the pattern, someone is sending him a message. Superman would never come face to face with this threat, instead he would discover the pattern as the killer gets closer to his friends until finally he thinks he knows where he's going to be but Superman gets there too late and Lois Lane appears to be dead (I'm sure DC would never let her die but I'd love to give Superman his Gwen Stacey moment) with a letter on her chest that asks "Why didn't you save her?" Crippled with guilt Superman flies out the window, the killer activates Jimmy's watch to signal Superman, Superman finds him in a corn field much like the one he crashed in as a baby, the killer stands there with Jimmy Olsen who has a bag over his head. Superman begs for Jimmy's life and the killer just grins at him, he ask Superman how it feels to watch the one's he loves die for him? Engulfed by rage, Superman charges the killer and spears him, breaking the killer's back. He takes the killer and brings him to the Fortress and throws him into the Phantom Zone, feeling guilty for taking justice too far, he carries the burden alone.

I always thought they could treat the Prankster like a Joker foil for Superman. He plays evil pranks that get people killed for his own sick amusement.

Superman unlocks the next step of kryptonian evolution and powers with mzxplk in order to stop a multiversal abstract that threatens the whole dc multiverse and his friends lois and jommy as main players of the villian.

They should do a parody of The Little Mermaid with Lori Lemaris effectively showing what a horrible aspiring story that is for little girls. Maybe mix it up with Cinderella and work in the pre-Disney source material like cutting off her own toes - the REAL reason for the glass shoe fitting and her bloody nub being why Prince Charminf/Superman really knew who the bloody shoe belonged to.

Superman is "kidnapped" to a world halfway across the universe. He finds himself in the middle of a battle and immediately intervenes to protect those caught in the crossfire. In the aftermath he is approached by a man who explains that his world is involved in a massive struggle. One of his allies had heard of Superman and insisted that this world needed his help. He points to a corpse and explains that she had used her abilities to bring Superman here at the cost of her own life. Superman briefly considers if this is his fight (no more than a page) before looking at the injured around him and deciding to intervene.
With Superman on their side his allies manage to defeat a group of their opponents with no casualties on either side and little property damage. This occurs a second and third time. But as the fourth battle begins Superman is taken down by someone who manages to counter him move for move but seems to be doing so almost casually like a cat toying with a mouse. Just before his opponent knocks him out Superman recognizes the symbol on the man's belt as Kryptonian.
Superman awakens to find himself secured to a chair by metal too strong for him to break. His captor explains that the restraints are there simply to ensure his "guest" listens rather than reacting like an immature child. The other Kryptonian explains he had escaped the destruction much as Kal-El had. He'd landed here as a teen and been taken in by a small community. His physical powers had developed slower. He'd found himself living on a world where various factions ruled each backed by weapons of mass destruction. Some imposed their religious beliefs, others protected their dominance of the world's resources. others simply defended a select group. The Kryptonian had been forced to intervene when a war broke out. He acted only to prevent the use of weapons that would end all life.
He explains that he isn't asking for Kal-El to approve of his actions only to for him to butt out.
The rest of the tale is just how Superman handles this as he still needs a way back to Earth as he has no idea where this world in relation to Earth. Superman is basically stuck here for the moment.

I would have a story where Superman goes trick or treating, where his only costume is a pair of red trunks
over his regular suite and the first door is answered by Lex Luthor dressed like Buck Rogers
