Default Where is Barry Windsor Smith?

Well I think he still lives in Woodstock, NY, but he is gone from comics.

His last work was published ten years ago and his Monster GN has supposedly been in the works for years, with no updates since 2013.

I am a huge fan of his work, his Conan (starting with #1) made me a comic collector.

So what is he up to? Anybody know?

No clue. But, a collected Storyteller would be interesting.

A FINISHED Storyteller, as he promised, would be nice.

He's out of the industry. I think he mostly does landscape and fantasy paintings these days-- he's kinda fortunate that his fine art sells farily well. I've heard rumors that he will do commissions, but I've never seen any actual information about that.

Yeah, seems his website hasn't been updated since 2011.

Around the same time Micheal Zulli ceased updating his blog! :O

So much for his promise to finish it. I remember at the time it came out, talking an old bud into buying it.Now while 5 bucks today, isnt much, 20 years ago it still was.At the time, I'd mow a huge lawn to earn that 5 bucks.EVERY one of these stories should have been finished.A very good way to lose ones fan base.

Yeah, I'd like to know what happened as well. A talented artist like BWS doesn't just "disappear". I have heard rumors of mental issues, but they're just that. I hope he's okay. He's my favorite comic artist of all time and want to see him come back soon.

Promises to finish the story and economic viability are two different issues. Perhaps he hoped to bankroll enough to continue; but lost the desire over time. Maybe he ran into writer's block.

I have no idea; but, I miss his non-superhero work. However, I can easily see walking away from comics as the industry stands, now. Even with a book publisher backing it, the book industry is on shaky legs that you would have a hard time making money off of it.

Maybe he's just looking for the right platform. Maybe he found more contentment in just painting. Maybe he's just recharging, again.

i enjoyed his art run when he was in valiant. i still have his rune issues with malibu. i have not seen that style artwork yet throughout the years in the comic industry. it would be nice to see him draw conan one more time.

I really do miss his work. I remember how much his two Uncanny books stood out when I was a kid. Weapon X was the real game changer too for Wolverine.

He's sixty-seven years old. He may just be enjoying retirement. And, bless him, if he is.
Patsy Walker on TV! Patsy Walker in new comics! Patsy Walker in your brain! And Jessica Jones is the new Nancy! (Oh, and read the Comics Cube.)

True, but it is rare for a comic artist to fall this far of the radar. Even Ditko is still heard from now and again.

Monsters is out next week, and early reviews have been phenomenal!

And here's a new interview with the man himself...
